Bad luck or issue's?
 

Everytime I take my 1211 to a plow day, I end up with a leaking relief valve shorty after. Is it just bad luck or could there be something causing it?

Have you had the relief valves rebuilt at that place in Ashtabula, Ohio?

No but I'm getting ready to send a set out. When it did it the first time I had some used valve's so I replaced the one that was leaking, after a plow day in the fall it happened again but I haven't messed with it.

IMHO, you just had some bad or compromised valves. Sundstrand had a good design and it worked for 50+ yrs.

I am NOT an advocate of some guy rebuilding valves in his garage, I much prefer OEM factory fresh valve. It is your call though.

Pulling a plow is a load on a hydro. Probably why they only leak after plowing... oil is really hot, and thin.

Send off a set to Machtech and get them rebuilt. Don't worry, he's not just "some guy in a garage". He's done thousands of them, and several members here recommend him. New valves are stupid expensive compared to rebuilt.

I already talked to machtech and he said 67.50 for the pair and that includes shipping, for that price I think I'm gonna send four so I have some for the 784. I don't plan to plow with it again, after plowing with it for half a day and then switching to the 108 it really made me realize how much nicer it is to plow with a GD. I have a 122 here with a rebuilt engine that I'd like to take to PA plow day if I can score a rear lift for cheap.

Lol. Yep, on a gear drive, you just drive. Don't have to constantly play with that hydro lever. :beerchug:

Plowing on a hydro is alot like spending the day with kids, it's not very relaxing and by the time you're done you're just wore out.:biggrin2:

I can't help with the relief valves, But i take it i will see you next month at PA plow day?

Maybe you just get alot of dust and notice then. Even though ive never been to plow day or worked my cub hard for 3 hrs, those valves and orings should withstand a full days work. Jmech might have an idea with warm oil, but only on a fifty year old seal, maybe only if its never been replaced.
