Default Haban 374 Deck refurb

My Haban 60 incher had a lot of hours and a lot of wear on it.. I got tired of hearing the front casters beat and bang so I came up with a solution.. The commonly used holes all had wear so I just welded those up and re drilled them.. Made new pins with threads so I could tighten them. Also welded contact plates on the upper and lower part of the caster carriage.. with some hand fitting I managed to get all the play out.. should be nice and quiet now..

I also added some new rear casters with bearings and made some new pins there also.

I have new bushings and casters for the front from Mc Master as per SamMac's recommendation and part numbers.. just haven't put them in yet.

While I was at it I tore her down and added a coat of paint.

Next I will do spindle rebuilds and a new belt..

Should be good for many more hours!!

Yes sir, you did a fine job tightening things up
Those front casters Sam recommends are the cat's meow, work great
I should do some cosmetic work on mine, but just not high enough on the to do list yet...

Thanks guys!! It's a worker so the paint is more or less just for protection. I'm sure it won't stay pretty very long.

As for the yellow and white.... the original owner swears it came that way when he bought it new in 1990.

I liked it and thought it looked great that way... so that's how im going back with it..

Hope the correct police don't get me!!

Default Haban 374 refurb continued

Made a little time over the last few weekends to work on the Haban some more.
Rebuilt all the spindles with new bearings. Replaced the blades with new CCC units with the hard edge. Replaced the idler and belt. Repaired the rear hanger and added the braces like Sam has suggested in prior Haban posts.
Welded, rebushed and resized a TON of holes in this thing and the mule drive.. I think it's getting as close to a new Haban as I'll ever get!
Still have to add the new front caster bushings and casters.. then I will put her under the 1782 and try her out! Too bad there isn't much grass left growing this time of year!

This thing has been fun to work on... My first experience with a Haban 60 incher... They are real beasts! Built like a tank!

I know the IH decals aren't correct but I couldn't resist!!

That looks too nice to cut grass with. Put it away and get a beater to use.

Sam,

The paint was just for rust protection mainly... original owner had taken good care of it.. just had a lot of hours..

But now I am gonna have a hard time getting it dirty now!!

Thanks for all the past Haban advice and tips!! Much appreciated and helpful!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
