Default New to me Yellow 982 made it home!

I've been hunting a 982 for some time now. This one popped up several weeks back from a fellow member (dbarufaldi) out of NY. I really wanted a red one but this loaded yellow one popped up. I really didn't even know there was such a thing as a yellow 982.. All the ones I have ever seen were red.

According to my Cub Cadet book it is considered to be a 986 with the factory installed PTO, three point, and hyd remotes.

Never thought I would buy one so far off!! But after talking with Dan I was comfortable with the deal and we made it happen.. I still think I'm crazy for making a deal sight unseen that far off, but so far I am extremely happy with it.

Dan did a great job with the palleting and Fastenal was more than easy to deal with.

I'll get some better pics soon. These were taken before it made the trip.

The old Onan runs great and is gut strong just like I remembered them being.

I'll give some more updates as I check it out some more!

I've never owned a super in this series so I'm appreciative of any info or tips you guys may have.

Jay, that thing looks awesome! I've only ever seen pics of the Y/W 982's and I'm thinking they are a rare bird. Yep, we're gonna need lots of pics.

She looks really nice! Dual stick and all the bells and whistles!
One thing about this super- your hood will out last the cyclops hoods
Better not leave us hanging, pics as soon as she hits the unloading dock
Nothing beats the dual exaust notes of an old Onan!!
Only thing I found worn that I didn't think should have was the pump splines
I put a driveshaft off a 2xxx on cause it has much more contact area.

Its no show queen, but appears to have been well cared for.. I put gas and oil in it, strapped the deck under it and went to work cutting knee high grass at the shop... The old Onan dug in and never let up! It's super smooth and well balanced. Runs much slicker than any opposed twin Kohlers ive had!

The previous owner was using it about 4 hrs a week cutting grass for 4 or 5 years. Needs a little TLC but all in all it's one of the best used tractors ive ever bought

Apparently the CCC dealers could only order them yellow. The old IH ag dealers that were still in the system could get red or yellow.. most of the ag dealers chose red.. I wish I had a way to find the history and where it was sold new!

Nice tractor. Never saw one in person either. I thought they were 19xx's in yellow and white. Congrats and enjoy!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
