Hey all thanks for the positive comments. This has been a long project but it won't be long now. I hope to finally finish planting soybeans tomorrow if nothing breaks down. We got 135 acres planted today in spite of blowing a hydraulic line. As soon as they are in the ground I can get the newly painted sheet metal installed and finish it up. I ordered a driveshaft from a 2284 from a guy and he also was able to supply me a set of rear fender flares from the same 2284. I have been trying to get one of our sponsors to ship me a set since December of last year and have had no luck with him. I guess he has no time to remove them. As soon as I get the red parts installed I will post some pictures.
Later Tom |

Well I had some time to get back on the 1872. I reworked the side outlet muffler and routed the exhaust out through the grill. Then I installed the freshly painted red sheet metal. Here some pictures of how it looks today. After taking the pictures I tried it out and mowed some grass with it. The new 2284 CV driveshaft corrected the vibration I was getting. It is a very quiet and smooth ride now.
Modifying the muffler. I cut the pipe off flush with the end and cut the welded seam and removed the end of the muffler. U bend to make new outlet IMG_20170612_172513.jpg IMG_20170612_172525.jpg outlet pipe welded in place. Inside view of new outlet IMG_20170613_105148.jpg IMG_20170613_105224.jpg End cap hole plugged and end welded back on muffler. IMG_20170613_111215.jpg some views of finished tractor. After I finish mowing tomorrow I plan on removing the mower deck and sandblasting and repainting it and the undercarriage. IMG_20170614_162153.jpg IMG_20170614_162220.jpg IMG_20170614_162243.jpg |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
