Is it a pull start? or are you changing it to a 71 ignition setup ?

It has a key start like every other cub, that's that way it was and that's how it's staying. I'm trying to walk a fine line between restoration and keeping some of the things my grandfather did to it.

Should this piece bolt on with the bolts toward the front or rear of the tractor?

It bolts to the lift handle for the rear lift to attach to.

Tim, I think it might only fit in there one way. I'd have to check my tractors when I get home to be sure.

Well, I didn't make nearly as much progress today as I wanted to. Everything seemed to be one small problem after another which burned up to much time, I seriously doubt I will be able to get it done at this point. Here's some pics of today's progress.

Tim,
that's how it goes, they come apart easy, but reassembly takes time.
If you need pics for reference, shoot me an email and I will get some for you.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
