I personally have seen 3 or 4 crack here. Frame flexes too much, and it's a weak spot. I've not seen any other SGT crack here, just the 982. Not sure if something was changed, or having the power steering bolted on helps stiffen it up. Just know I've seen it, and it's something to watch for.

You won't find a service bullion on it anymore than you will find a SB on the need for rear end braces. It's just something that has been discovered, like the frame flex that breaks the hydro front casting, thus the need for rear end braces.

Has to more to the story on that poor 982 with 2 busted frame rails? Wonder if suffered a sudden stop having been dropped from elevation?? And the nose was pushed in too? What a shame!

My 982 has power steering that was on it when I purchased it. I know it was a replacement yeller cylinder on me little red machine. Guess I figured it to be stock, but just replaced. Its fun to learn all of the time and I hope I learn new things all the time. Seems like education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one!! Thanks for posting about this......I learned something from it.

If you want just a mower, then your choice should be based on what you want you are mowing. If you want to mow fast and have obstacles, like trees, shrubs, neighbor's doggies and kitties, then a zero turn should be tops on the list. If you have some lotsa flat land, then a 982 perhaps with an offset trail mower in tow would be really nice. The 982 could also be used for garden work and snow removal!! Weigh your options and make the option right for you!
