#102 fuel leaking
I have a IH CC 102 that the previous owner dropped in a K301 12HP. I replaced the old carb with new one, cleaned the rusty gas tank and deleted the gummed up filter sediment bowl assembly in favor of an updated inline fuel filter to catch any rust to not clog my new carb. I did this also because the gasket was missing so gas kept over flowing / leaking from top of the glass bowl anyway. Following the advise of a guy at the parts house I changed the old smaller ID copper line to rubber 1/4" ID fuel line to fit the new inline filter size. I have a hot mess of plumbing adapters to make this happen in a very short span to the carb even added a fuel shutoff. So now what is happening after a short time the fuel is flooding and leaking from the bottom bowl of the new carb. Even after I shut off the fuel it will continue until the line in empty or pressure has equalized Im guessing.
So is the new 1/4" ID line delivering too much fuel or is something else causing this to happen? Would it be better/safe to just go back to a new sediment bowl assembly as it was from factory? Will it keep any leftover trash from tank out of carb? I realize that is what was used in 66' but still good vs inline filers of today? I am far from small engine mechanic so much help is needed getting this cub back to work. |

In my opinion a sediment bowl is superior to a filter. Mainly because it let's water settle out and not get to the carb. The screen in them is just as good as any fuel filter you will get, and it has a shut off valve built in.
Your issue has nothing to do with the setup. The issue is in the carb. Sounds like the bowl isn't on good or the gasket is leaking. |

A sediment bowl screen. They can be purchased separately. I suggest just replacing the whole thing. You can get them at NAPA.

Ok checked and the gasket on the bowl for carb was not right so i fixed it and no leaks now, but still going back to a new sediment bowl assembly as it was from factory. The new issue is it runs but will not stay running at WOT.
After I move to WOT it runs but then surges and then dies. What did the throttle linkage jump on the carb at the end of video just after it dies? I did notice the new 1/4 lines is hitting the linkage too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADql-YgpAPk Also noticed I have no teasing spring on my clutch assembly but Ill start a new thread on that. |
