Default More Stuff In My Shop

I have some non IH stuff in my shop right now. A variety of vintage to commercial and...well...crap. The Simplicity Powermax will be the most challenging as it needs everything and this guy says he is willing to go the gamut. We will see. Here are some pics.

Looks like you've got your work cut out for you Beth. No Cubs in the pictures just goes to show how tough they are, out working instead of in the shop for repairs. Seriously they all need love sometime. I'll be following your post for more on the Simplicity Powermax. I've always admired them and would like to find one someday.

How dare you post pictures like that! You should be banned from this forum.

Just kidding. Keep us updated on them, especially the Simplicity.

I really dislike the Powermax series...but these things have sort of a cult following. The Deere will be favorite project. The crappy MTDs won't take long to repair.

I hope to add a few Simplicity Sovereigns to my collection.

The Simplicity Powermax looks like the Allis Chalmers and Yanmar tractors....... Same thing? Both made by Simplicity?
I'd trade the Lo-Boy for one. At least they have a 540 PTO...

I like the F9XX JD mowers. I wouldn't mind having one. Maybe one with a cab, mower deck, blade and snowblower!
Was that the series available with 4wd? I'm not real "up" on them....

Simplicity 4040, 4041 and 9020 Powermax and the AC 720s were the same except the paint scheme and decals. Simplicity had a compact tractor that did not sell well. It was not a Yanmar, however, I cannot remember who made it.

The JD F 935 was only two wheel drive. The series that came after the 1435 and 1535 had many improvements including mechanical rear wheel drive.

This F 935 is equipped with a 76" deck...it is a monster.

I like the looks of the Deere, reminds me of the Toro front mounted mowers back in the 80's---those things really would get the job done (at least the one I ran would). There is a smaller version of those front mounted Deeres, think it was only available in 2 models. The deck was way offset so you could trim easily into ditches and under fences. They sit really low to the ground. If I remember correct, the engine was custom built for Deere and served as the reservoir for the hydro, the hydro drive may have been incorporated into the engine crankcase as well. We only had 1 in the shop and it was here for misc repairs and maintenance. Discovered it had an oil leak and after talking to a friend that is a Deere mechanic, we decided to decline pursuing the oil leak (nothing like working on a paid job and losing money getting an education). Any way that was over 10 years ago but the thing made enough impression on me to note never to get one.

John, the model you are referring to is an F 525. They did an ok job in mowing but were a nightmare to repair. The engine sump was also the hydrostatic transmission sump. If the gasket between the engine and transmission case leaked it was expensive repair. The gasket is cheap...but practically the entire unit had to be disassembled to change it. I did several...YUCK.

There was a guy at PA plow day with a JD similar to that one, the plow was mounted out front and it looked tricky to operate.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
