Thanks Jeff! I really appreciate that, and my wife does too! She said the only way she would wear a tractor T-shirt is if it had a tractor like mine on it. :IH Trusted Hand:

ACecil,
Those pictures are great  Nothing like a relaxing ride around the yard to gather ones thoughts. Took the 169 to the home place today. First time it has been there. You really can tell a difference, power wise with the 169 when you get up there in the hills and hollers.:biggrin2.gif: http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...hthe169016.jpg http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...hthe169017.jpg http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...hthe169018.jpg |
Beautiful pics Diz! I wish I had property like that to mow:beerchug:
Jeff (teet) |
Thanks Diz! Your pics are awesome! Looks like you were having a great time. :beerchug:
|
Thanks TEET, I really enjoy going up there and running my tractors.
Thanks ACecil, It was a good afternoon with the 169 :biggrin2.gif: |

Today I changed out the front axle. One picture shows the problem. I wanted to hit it with some paint, but too cold.
|
Nice job RPalmer! How did that get cracked?
Jeff (teet) |
RPalmer,
Looks like it will steer now :biggrin2.gif: |
TEET,
The story goes that the spindle froze up. So the PO (Ten years old) started whacking on it to free it up. Then his dad took a torch to it and that's when it cracked. Father explained to son what was involved to fix it and he decided to sell it. That's when I got it. About two weeks ago. Diz Jr., YES!!! Now I can move it withou killing myself. I parked it by pushing it and then picked up the front or rear to get it placed. After I put on the axle I drove it a bit. Clutch needs a total rebuild. I didn't run it too long because it was low on gas and the clutch belt needs replacing. But at least I can now move it. And I have to say, being old school, I love all the grease fittings. That is how they all should have stayed. |
RPalmer,
Good deal, Its nice to have a spare axle isn't it! I figured it looked liked it had been wacked a few too many times:bash: It's nice to find bargains with an easy fix:biggrin2.gif: Jeff (teet) |
Nice job, RPalmer! :beerchug:
|
TEET,
I didn't have a spare. I had to buy it. I don't have any spare parts for an OCC. It is true I got it for a good price. It runs, shifts and stops. But this Cub is going to be put back to like new. I think the only thing missing is the grill ornament. It's kinda hard to believe that in 2011 it will be 50 years old. Maybe I will have in done by then.:biggrin2.gif: ACecil, Thanks. It took some heat to get the pin's nut off. |
Diz Jr.,
being old school, I love all the grease fittings. That is how they all should have stayed.[/QUOTE] I agree with you 100% RPalmer. I usually have more than enough grease a little messy somtimes but at least i know its got plenty :biggrin2.gif: |

A couple of weeks ago I bought some Cub Cadets a 123, a 124, a 125 and an unidentified CCC Cub and 9 mower decks, 2 front blades, some plastic covered cement wheel weights and some mule drives.
The 125 was the only one that was complete (there was also a deck on it for a total of ten decks) so about 20 minutes after getting this stuff home and unloaded, I got the 125 running, and mowed with it for a little bit. The motor in this thing ran so well I couldn't believe it, but it didn't cut very well, so I thought I would take the deck off to investigate, the blades were worn badly and about as sharp as the steering wheel. So I took a set off of one of the other decks and put them on. It also didn't steer quite right so I thought while the deck was off, I would pull the column and check it out. Well the column was broken so I put in a rebuilt one that I had setting on the shelf. While the column was out I figured I would take the transmission control out because it felt like it was too tight and like it was binding when you would step on the pedal. I took it apart and filed then polished the speed control centering cam and painted it up with slip plate. While I was that far along I thought it would be a good time to pull the trans axle, and inspect the trunnion for wear, BUT I can not stand to screw around with a dirty, greasy hydro. So I pulled the engine, wire loom and transaxle then pressure washed everything to make it easier and cleaner to work on. I was really surprised to see that the engine was very clean, don't get me wrong, it had dust on the shroud and under the gas tank and stuff but there was absolutely NO grease or oil on it anywhere on this engine. Well after I got it all clean, I started to re-assemble things, I ran the wire loom back through the engine compartment and set the motor, hooked up the wires and bolted the voltage regulator back in place, put the dash back on bolted the hydro lever assy. back in and installed the new column. The next day, I started the trunnion repair, I took it apart and welded the notches up and filed them back to shape. The day after that I picked up the trunnion springs and ends and the shims. While I was welding, I welded the heat shield over the muffler because it was cracked around one of the bolt holes. I also welded the drive plate hub, it had notches worn in it where the pin rides, I also ordered a new pin and put it in the shaft. I replaced one of the fenders because it was bent and torn in the bend at the top. When washing it I noticed that the cross brace in the hood was cracked, it is cracked right past the bend (toward the middle of the hood) where it is spot welded to the side, I'm going to try and "clamp" a wet rag to the outside of the hood while I weld the brace and see if I can keep from burning the paint off of the outside. We'll see how that goes. Got the trunnion back together and it felt pretty good, bolted the transaxle back under the tractor. The next day I put the mower deck back on fired it up and started cutting grass. I still can not believe how sweet this motor runs. Too bad the tractor isn't very pretty. The grass here was really tall because I haven't mowed since... forever, so I thought I would run this thing through the wringer and I did. I cut all my grass with it yesterday and then my Brothers grass today. What a workout it had, but it performed great, I'm really impressed with it. First chance I get, I guess I'll start on one of the others I did take some pictures of the trunnion repair. |
Yosemite Sam
Great story. Elbow grease, time and parts and you already had to make a working Cub. I think that's what everyone hopes for when getting a Cub in need. |
Yosemite Sam,
You have really been busy  Nice pictures of the repair. Glad to hear its running great for you.:IH Trusted Hand: |
Awesome job, Yosemite Sam! Now your 125 is ready for many years of service. :beerchug:
|
My wife bought two mums and a pumpkin for her Fall display. I got the 100 out, along with the #2 cart and hauled them for her.

ACecil,
Great pictures  Mums look really good decorating the front along with the pumpkin. We just went and picked our pumpkins out this afternoon too. |
ACecil, I agree that the flowers and pumpkin look good on the step. But they looked pretty good too in the trailer with the 100.
|
Thanks for the nice comments guys! :beerchug:
|
Thanks for the comments guys. Funny when you think about it, I bought this stuff intending to cabbage some parts and sell the rest... This 125 looks as bad as some of the other old beaters that I have, how come some of the crappiest looking tractors run so darn well?
After mowing season, I guess I'll put a blade on it, put some tubes in the tires, load them and round up another set of chains. Gotta do something about lights though... I'm gonna be in some DEEP STUFF if these other two run out half as well as this one does, I'm running low on good used parts and I really don't need this many tractors! |

Oh gosh!! What a problem to have. Guess you won't see me :Cry1: in my :beerchug: when I have that problem!! :HeeHee::ExtremeFunny::LMAO1: Keep up the great collecting job, Sam! |

I have noticed that also Yosemite Sam. My 149 is a good example. When i got it. It was pretty sad looking. But with a little work its a great running tractor. |

I pulled the deck on the 104 and put on the blade and chains. I got new inner tubes installed on the 129, put the chains on that along with the wheel weights I had on the 104 and ordered a pair of tri ribs for one of my 100s. So I have a GD and a hydro ready to push some snow. If I can pick up another set of chains, I got a blade for the 100 that I just might try out. The only pictures I have now are the 104 chains. I'll get some of the 129 when my QA latch springs arrive.
|
RPalmer.
Sounds like you are ready for it :biggrin2.gif: Good lookin chains. |
Great job, RPalmer! Can't wait to see the action pics, over the Winter.

The 129 is ready for the big white show. I got my latch springs installed. You really don't want to replace them with a blade on. But it can be done.
|
The 129 looks so good RPalmer :IH Trusted Hand:
|
Diz Jr.,
I got my tri ribs and tubes today from K Morrow. They are 4.00's and they look better in person than any image. If my new tire tools come tomorrow I'll get them mounted on the rims I painted way back when it was nice out. They are going on my #1 100. Thanks for the thumbs up. |
RPalmer,
I know what you mean. I got mine a couple of weeks ago. And i agree they look really good. Just FYI. When i mount tires i ususally soap them up to help them slide on. I gave up the first nite. Every time you would let go they would slip back off the rim. Finely i gave up. Next day i went and tried but left them dry. Had both of them on in less than 5 minutes. Once they were on the rim i soaped the beads so they would seat when i aired them up. But i got to tell you that first nite i was wishin i had never seen them :biggrin2.gif: |
Your 129 looks like it's ready to work, RPalmer! Great pic. :beerchug:
|
Nice work Wild Bill.
I'll bet it does sound good :biggrin2.gif: |
Looks geat, Bill! I'd love to hear it run.
|
Wild Bill,
Looks good. Very high cool factor! |
Got some lawn sweeping done today. The leaves are coming down, a lot more, since the weather turned cooler.

Lookin good ACecil
That sweeper really does a nice job huh? Even with those big leaves. What kind of leaf is that? |
ACecil,
The 100 is looking good. It's about time you put on some pants while your in that seat.:biggrin2.gif: Are Mah's flowers holding up? |
Thanks guys!
Diz: Those are Sycamore leaves. :beerchug: RPalmer: Mah's flowers are doing great! |
