Did you run any Tesla's or ZL1's yet? Sounds like Ford got you tuned in now.:beer2::biggrin2:

Oak I have run across some Camaros and have been able to best them easily. I think a ZL1 has about 455hp so it should perform similarly to a C7 maybe a little slower. Right now I am at 735hp with a real snappy tune. I have driven many fast cars over the years this car is fast. The big problem is traction I hate the P zeros they do not hook. I have Continental extreme contact on the 99 and they are awesome. My 1/4 mile times will be effected by the traction issue I am looking to get drag radials. Most of the runs I have made are on highway rolling start. It is hard to know what you are racing today stock or modified. I have not been up against a Tesla yet but they are super quick. It is much easier to get that electric motor turning than a big old V8. They put power to the street real fast. I have run a hellcat charger several times and I would say the cars were pretty much equal. I did pull a ahead each time but I would credit that to inexperience on the hellcat driver. Next week there is a pretty famous local car show that is at a closed 1/4 mile track and they let you run your car so we may go and see how they do. The car is fun but again the best thing is about doing something with my son. Today we spent 3 hours at a car show sitting with the cars and talking just talking and laughing. Some here have said I should not have given him my 99 but I think it has been well worth it. Imagine an 18 year old today not looking at a cell phone for 3 hours. Id almost believe in big foot before that.

It looks like the Z06 race will definitely happen. My buddy with the 2016 C7 just traded it in for a 2017 Z06. The car is amazing. He could not deal with the fact that my car was faster. He did not say it but I have known him for years he does not like to be second. The Z06 is very fast the autos are running mid to high 10"s on street tires. On paper I should hang with him but my tires suck. I am getting drag radials. The race will not happen till spring as both cars are put away for winter. I expect he will beat me by few tenths. I can live with a few tenths when the car cost twice what mine did. Being 340 lbs does not help me either. The extra weight is worth a 10th and a half.

mustang to vett is sort of a Apples to Oranges comparison though
high speed rear end to high torque rear end Z06-07 designed to run at 150- 180 mph for long periods it's not a sprint car in otherwords I have a 86 Z31 T, used to get Kids with accords, souped some, wanting to race Jokingly I'd say sure 90mph and up ok , they just gasp |
Good stuff Charles! Glad to see you are still out there enjoying the new found Coyote power! And also enjoying time with your boy, which by far is the most important. Keep us posted on the Z06 race. That should be a good one. Curb weight to curb weight you are not giving up to much to him and are making a good deal more power. I bet its a dead heat if you can get a good enough tire under your car!
I can't wait for the tracks to open, come on March, will be up at Mason Dixon! |

Green I agree but on the street the pissing contest is usually measured light to light or 1/4 mile or so not too many places to run at above 150 around here. With all the changes to the new Mustangs they are becoming more and more like a vette the 18's are going to have a 10 speed automatic. I had my share of vettes. If they bring out a new GT500 it should have no problem hanging with a Z06. From all I have seen and read the GT350 will out handle aZ06 but is a little short on power. I have had the 16 up to 145 with plenty left but I think it's limited at about 158. |

Well last night I went out for a ride with my buddy with the z06. I now have drag radials and the difference is amazing. We did not line up and race but, he was in front of me and took off a bunch of times and he could not pull away from me. We also got side by side on the highway doing about 60 and took off and I stayed right with him. He was having traction problems. With warmer streets and better traction I think he would edge me out, but again I'm fine getting edged by a Z06. I am considering going to the phase two SC set up it will add about another 60-70 HP. That might be too much though.

For my sons first car, we fixed him up a 1974 gran Torino. Everyone said or thought "man yer stupid" my response to them was, you see that dodge caravan out there in the driveway? It'll do 120 mph if you choose to make it. Long story short he made it thru his teenage years and left this world in a 1994 Toyota pick up doing 40 miles per hour. He loved the Torino and I'm glad he got to own it.

So it was only a matter of time until the full on race happened between me and my buddy with the Z06. He kept saying that he was not running the car full out because he had to hit 1500 miles to break it in. Well last knight he hit that mark so it was on. Several runs had to happen. My car hooked better and I grabbed almost a car length out of the hole then we stayed at about that level although I think I lengthened that distance to a full length. We also did some runs from a roll as well as from about 60mph each time I was able to pull a small lead. So now we have the answer. I could not have been more impressed with the Mustang.
