I decided to start working on the 70. I dug out all the pieces, pressure washed and degreased. Since this one is pretty much in original condition, except for the engine, I decided that I want it to look aged. I'm cleaning it all up, treating any rust, and getting it back in good working order. I got the front axle off and disassembled. It's almost ready to get greased and reinstalled. Got the repaired shifter back together and installed in the rearend along with the rear cover off the 982, so it's ready to be filled. Once I get the front axle back together I'll install it and the rear end and have a roller. I need to do some repairs on a front wheel and also get new bearings. I also need 4 new tires. I got a set of narrow rears and am going to put a set of 6-12 ags along with narrow ribs up front. I had to get the 1862 and 982 out of the shop to get to the 70, so I set them up for a pic as well.

Broke down 3 times today!!!!!
First I was mowing and the left hand spindle came apart, the hollow bolt in the spindle shaft backed out and the blade fell off. Got that fixed. Second I was mowing and noticed that it had quit charging, I shut it off the check things, and the Brand New S/G I bought had quit charging. I changed it out with a used one I had. Thank goodness for having an extra tractor. Last I went back to mowing and it just up and died and threw fire out of the muffler. Refused to start back up. I check a few things and then touched the coil, I almost burned the hide off my fingers. So I walked 6 blocks back to the house took the coil off the 149 and drove the truck down to the Cub, fixed it and got it home. Now I have to walk back down to get the truck. I think I need a Tall Cold Pepsi after all of that. |
I'll say, and we Okies had a hot one today Pat.
Nothing like an antique tractor to keep your wrenching skills honed. :beerchug: |

Last night I got my hydraulics fired up on the 100 and bled the air out of the lines. Put on the rear blade and it lifts it easily. The real test will be when I put on the carry-all and start adding weight to see how much it'll lift. My goal is at least 200 lbs. After that the front end gets too light.

Sorry to hear about all the bad luck today...mine was yesterday..messed with the 782..it was running rich, so I pulled out an old manual, adjusted the carb, and messed it all up..would run at idle and die at midrange..fiddled a while longer, but still the same..said, screw it.....OK, check my computer files...different adjustment there!!..make a copy...get a fresh start today..check plugs..gap in wrong..re-adjust carb..fires right up..power thru the complete range..let it warm up..re-adjust the carb..change the oil..scrounge thru the shed and find enough to get a mule drive and deck on it..change out the tires..and there it is...lookin' ugly, but runnin' great and mowing the lawn!!!!!

I guess you couldn't make up your mind if you wanted a Red Tractor or a Yellow one. :)
