The 3000 series are different than all the others. The decks are shaft driven off of a pto shaft that is belt driven from a banded belt. The striping comes from how the height is adjusted. The rear of the deck has 4 rollers that are adjusted to get the height you need. The deck height is not adjusted from the tractor but on the newer ones it is. You lower the deck until the weight is on the rear rollers and the front 2 casters. The complete width of the mowed area is then rolled from the rear rollers and the 2 rear tires. I didn't check mine yet but the blade tip speed seems a lot faster then my 82 series. I think these are good mowers but I don't think they would pull a plow very well and I wouldn't consider them in the same class as our GT's or SGT's.

Thanks for the comments on the yard. The 48" deck seems to stripe better than the 60". I really like this tractor especially the liquid cooled engine and the differential lock. I do agree that the older gt and sgt seem to be heavier and would do better with a plow, but for mowing this beats them in quality of cut.

Got my pipe, rain cap, and air cleaner painted black..And put on the 100. :beerchug:
Also put my weights on the new filled 8.50s..And let some air out to get the tires softer. Hooked it to the practice sled, 2nd with full throttle...And she pulled the front wheels off the ground and took off with no traction issues! I'm very confident that she will do good tomorrow! :ThumbsUp: |

just got done working on my 782 for the night. This thing has been really frustrating. The first engine I had in it was a KT17 that was ran low on oil. It ran but smoked like a freight train. The next engine was a Mag 18 that came out of a 1810 that I bought off Conner. That engine has been the source of my frustration for the last 6 months. When I bought the tractor, i watched Conner start it up twice and drive it in to the bed of my truck. When I got it home, I pushed it out of the the truck and tried to start it but the bendix wouldn't engage. I finally got the tractor moved to where I could pull the engine out. I pulled the starter, cleaned it up, and then lubed the bendix. I finally got it all back together and in the tractor. When I tried to start it, the engine acted like it was locked up. I found out that the PTO was in a bind and wouldn't let the engine turn over. So I pulled the PTO off and made some changes and put it back on. I got the engine running a couple of times but the carb was acting up. So I rebuilt another carb I had laying around and put it on. When I was doing this, I noticed that the muffler didn't line up with the hole in the grille so I had to do some bending on the muffler to get it to line up. I readjusted the PTO and gave it another shot and it still didn't turn over. Now I'm really getting frustrated! I ended up rebuilding another starter and pulling the engine to put it on. I then noticed the bendix was garbage on this starter. I had to grab another one out of my pile of parts and it didn't help either. I finally loosened up the PTO again and it started turning over properly. The engine is now back in the tractor and ready to see if it's going to run tomorrow. If I had tried to start it tonight, me and my cubs would be sleeping in the yard for a while. I hope this thing finally runs. It's been a long frustrating journey with this d**n engine! If it runs, then I have to tackle my wiring gremlin. I'm not getting any power to the PTO or lights. I might end up putting the wiring harness from the 1810 in this tractor. We'll see. That will be another post. Wish me luck!

Tighten up 1863 steering
I haven't done anything on the Cub lately, been working on my cart. This morning I tightened up the steering. When I got this it had about 30 degrees of slop in the steering wheel. I tightened the adjuster in the bottom of the column until it stopped with a large screwdriver, and backed off to the next cotter pin slot. That helped some but turning the follower pin in 1/4 turn made the most difference. I put 30 shots of grease in it an test drove it, much better. I still have some slop in the helm joints, especially the one next to the column. But I probably won't change them right now. If I did something wrong let me know.

Taking a Pepsi break while working on the 1864. Thought I had a front seal leaking on me but looks like the oil filter was loose. Doing a oil change and swapping electric pto's out. The current one won't turn on after it gets warm. Good thing I have a spare sitting here.:beerchug:
I need to do some searching and see about cleaning the plastic on it. It has tons of grass and oil in the engine compartment that needs cleaning.:bash2: got to get the grass cut so I can get back to the O's.:beer2: |
