Well I got the 782 running Saturday morning. And had it running again today. It was purring like a kitten while I was running the carb dry. It's now back together and ready for the upcoming show in a couple of weeks. I think I might have jumped the gun a little though. I'm going to try to get the 4 red cubs I have together and take a group photo tomorrow. I need to get them all out anyway to get a push mower out that a friend is taking.

I enclosed the front side of my 42" cast end deck to see if it helps keep grass clippings from coming out the front and covering my shoes and air filter. The front of these cast end decks is cut out about 1 1/2" above the bottom of the blades for some reason. The only reason I can see why IH did this is for mowing in tall grass. In shorter grass, half of the clippings come out the front and not the side like they should. Hopefully, we'll get some more rain this week and I'll actually get to mow again this year. I've only mowed once since April.

The front roller was something I added after I added a few bald spots to my yard. With the blade hanging out below the front of the deck, it would definitely take out any high spots.

Here's a clutch spring compressor I made a while back using MattG's drawings. I haven't used it yet though.

A couple weeks ago, I swapped motors in my 100. I pulled out the black replacement K301 and put in the K301 that came out of my 126. The black engine is getting painted red and going in the 149.

Nice work IHinIN
Let us know how the deck modification works out.

EricR 08-07-2012 10:51 PM

Yep nice work Adam, and please let us know how the deck works as I have one of those also and thought of doing the same once I finally get is welded back together!

ACecil 08-07-2012 11:39 PM

Top notch work, as always, Adam! The 100 is looking good!

IHinIN 08-08-2012 06:09 AM

Thanks guys. I'll let you know how the deck works out once the grass starts growing again.

jbrewer 08-08-2012 09:21 AM

Let me know how that deck mod works. I've noticed the same thing...I'm covered in grass (and I've had to mow weekly) by the time I'm through with the yard.

I washed the IH Cub Cadet model 71. Noticed it was getting dusty and dirty as I dont believe I washed the tractor since May 11. I also put back on the Sears wheelweights. Been using the tractor to get firewood put up. Soon I'll need to put the IH 42" push blade on and tirechains.:IH Logo:

Going to get some much needed seat time tomorrow! :biggrin2:

TheIHMan 08-12-2012 06:57 PM

I took the 782D and 1650 to a tractor show yesterday. Didn't win anything but had a good time and got a lot of people looking at the Cubs.

drglinski 08-12-2012 07:14 PM

After doing some front PTO work last sunday, got the deck welded up good and the grass was growing again, I got my 147 out today and commenced to cutting. It worked great.

ACecil 08-12-2012 10:06 PM

Jenn got all the seat time today. She's still loving her 2130! :biggrin2:

Bruce,
Nice 1872!! That thing looks sweet, especially with the tiller. I hear ya on the rain. My grass sure greened up after we finally got that 2.25" soaker last week. First rain since beginning of June. It raining now actually.

Allen,
Jen sure does love her seat time. Seeing that she's only mowing about 1/3 a swath with the mower, she's trying to extend it out and keep you from getting any seat time. :biggrin2::beerchug:

I finished plowing about half an acre for a food plot, than I used a spring tooth harrow and front blade to smooth out where we trenched the gas line.

On 8-7-12 I posted pics of my modified 42" cast end deck that I enclosed the front side of to help keep grass clippings from coming out the front. I mowed with it yesterday and I must say, it made a big difference. My shoes didn't get covered, the air filter stayed fairly clean, and the top of the deck didn't get covered in clippings. I should have done this years ago.

ACecil 08-13-2012 01:49 PM

That's awesome, Adam! Glad it worked out for you.

i bought a cub cadet original yesterday....its an early 61. has collared spindels and everything. needs some serious tlc though. the engine came seperate and was stuck, but i bolted it to the table, and put a pipe wrench on the think part of the pulley and with a small tug on the pipe wrench it broke it loose. had to take the head off to get the valves unstuck. i got the engine all working. waiting to sell another tractor so i can get some $$$$ for parts for it. needs allllll electricals replaced and a few other odds and ends.
