A few years ago I bought several Cubs from a fellow on the Eastern end of Kentucky, one of which was a pretty nice looking 70. When I got them home I started them all just to see what I really had.

This 70 seemed to run pretty good, so I mowed one round in my Brothers yard with it. The engine had a noise that I quickly determined to be the flywheel screen, and the head gasket was leaking (not bad but it was leaking), it also steered pretty hard. I took note of these things and parked it in the back of the shed to mess with another day.

Another day finally came, so I pulled it out of the shed, brought it home and went to work. I pulled the carb. off, took it apart and put it in the carb. cleaner to soak. I pulled the engine out, took off the shroud and flywheel cup and screen. I put new bolts in to hold the screen (all 4, three were missing and one was too short). I took the head off, decarboned the top of the engine, sanded the head flat and put the engine back together. Then pulled the steering column and rebuilt it, put it back in. While the engine was out I replaced the clutch fork bracket. Then put the engine back in and hooked up everything except the carb. The next day I blew out the carb. body cleaned and blew everything out and put it back together with a new kit. Put the carb. back on, greased all the zirks, fired it up and set the timing.

What a sweet running tractor, I really had fun cutting grass with it.

It still needs some clutch/drive shaft work, the only thing that looks wrong is, the teaser spring is broken. Hard to tell if it will need any real work until it's apart, it seems to work well, just a little jerky on take off. Being that this isn't my main grass cutter or anything (just something to play around on) I may not put a lot of work into the clutch/drive shaft, depends on how bad it looks when I get it apart.

All in all I'm pretty happy with it, it makes a nice little trimming machine. The cast iron end deck really cuts well too, I was a little surprised.

Finally got caught up with most of the breakdowns we had lately and now my garage is missing a 102,149,108 and all I have left to work on is the 800. Finally got the rockshaft pin out and replaced in Dustin's 149 so it's back in mowing duty. Funny thing is I have been repairing all these Cubs...except my own. Seems funny to see only 3 tractors in the garage and to have gained more room...

Was a slow 3 days of sanding these parts down to metal , fenders , hood and some seat parts . Looks like it was painted 3 times before i got it .
When i get to the cast parts i will get out the sand blaster
