Looking good camarokid.
Yesterday I picked up a set of tire chains for my Cub and last night I put on the chains, wheel weights, and blade. Now it's ready for the snow to fly. I'm not sure I'm ready for the snow though. The guy I got the chains from also has a couple of hydraulic cylinders that should be perfect for the blade angle as well as lift. When I get some extra cash I'll go back and get them. He thought he also had some valves. Hopefully I can get these and get my hydraulic system built. |
Wow camarokidz28 you have really been fabricating a lot of parts
Steel hood looks great, So do all the other parts. Really nice looking pieces. What size tires are you going to run on those rims? |
26x12x12 super lugs . Next project will be the tear down of 2 /12 HP'S . Hope I do not have to boar them out .
|
Put the front and middle weight holders on today . My 22 year old daughter helped . She found out how to break down a tire with the help of a air chisel . Then she used the tire iron's to take them off the rim's . Next time i will show her how to cut rim's in half with the skill saw and a metal blade .

Looks great, camarokid! :beerchug:

Well...I got the deck painted. Certainly not show quality, but good enough to make it last longer!

Great job on the deck, CBH! :beerchug:

Here's a few pics of my freshly painted blade and my weights and chains. The salt spreader still needs painted but that will have to wait for warmer weather. Besides, I want to redo the frame on the spreader. I just threw it together with what I had laying around.
|
Your blade looks great, IHinIN! :beerchug:
|
That deck is beautiful CBH.
Hope mine comes out half that good. I got started on it today. IHinIN, That is one snow distroyin rig... Nice work. |
Thanks guys. The blade turned out pretty good considering I brush painted it. It's definately not "show quality". I used Valspar IH white from TSC but I didn't use any hardener so it takes forever to dry. I'm planning on fixing up the mower deck this winter and painting it next spring unless CBH wants to do it. :)

CBH and IHinIN.....WOW!!
What a GREAT  job on "cleaning up" your equipment! You guys are definately inspiring me to get my stuff cleaned and painted! They both look super!! :Thanks: for the pictures and sharing your successes!! Rob |
Painted the rim's yesterday , put the shift lock on .
Then I sold my 2 mtd lawn mowers . Went out today to get some 26x12x12 tires my local tire guy . He called to get me a set of Carlisle's . When he got off the phone , he said that it would be a 2 week's before his supplier would have them . Then he went in his tire storage and bought out a set of Destone tires . He said the lug's were at about a 35 degree angle and that Carlise 's were at a 45 degree angle carlise $ 85.00 Destone's $ 105.00 . So he said he would sell them to me for the same price as the Carlise's . Destone's are 8 ply tires . Cariles's were 4 ply . So tires and tubes $ 212.00 out the door . http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...8/100_1122.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...8/100_1121.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...8/100_1120.jpg |
Anyone use their front blade to move dirt? Today i decided to try and level out a dirt mound in the far back yard with the 782. I locked the trip blade on it but I did let the lift float still since I've never messed with dirt before. It worked pretty well I was impressed. I think I'd like to get ahold of a rear blade and some other rear attachments as well. I just can't stand not staying busy with the cubs.

Great looking tires camarokidz28
aagitch, Never tried pushing dirt with my blade. I have pushed down a pile of limestone. Worked good. |

8 ply tires !!
Went to mount the tires Sunday took 3 hr.s to get one on . No give to the side walls , Stiffest tires's I ever put on . Today went to my freinds , He has a tire machine and the rims were to tall for his machine , but we got the tire on with a lot of work . Only took about an hour since his tire machine was mounted to the floor . I will have to fab somthing up to hold the tire in place next time i do tires .

camarokidz28,
Glad to see you got them on  Sounds like a battle. |

How wide are the rims? |
13 inches out side to out side .
|
The rims are too wide. The sidewall should be more up and down. Not 100% sure....10 inch rim is what you need for a 26-12-12 tire.
This is a 7 inch wide rim. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Dude/rim01.jpg This is the correct way to measure a rim. 4 ply sidewalls is heavy enough side walls for a garden tractor. I run 2 ply on most of my Cubs. |
Yep...those tires are bulged way out just to fit the rims. Not good.
|
Had a rear tire going down on my 100. Went to the tire store to get tire repaired and these 2 tires mounted:

How to Widen Steel Wheels -
If you have a set of 5" wide wheels (measured on the inside lip of the rim), then 8" wide of rolled metal will need to be added in the wheels to make them 13" wide. To do this, you will need to... Place a mark on the wheels where they need to be cut. And importantly, identify the two halves of each wheel so they will be put back together without getting them mixed up. (If this isn't done, one wheel could be wider than the other and/or the offset won't be right when the job is finished.) To cut the wheels, chuck them in a large metal lathe with a minimum 14" swing. A Cub Cadet axle that's not bent can be used as a spindle to get a true cut. Or chuck the edge of the rim in the lathe's jaw chuck. The wheels can be cut on the inside or outside. Either way, just make sure they won't slip in the chuck when cutting them! Acquire 33-3/8" length of flat steel, one for each wheel, approximately the same thickness as the metal in the wheels. Use either 12 gauge (.108" thickness), 13 gauge (.093" thickness) or 3/32" (.094" thickness). For 23-10.50x12 tires, the wheels will need to be 11" wide (inside lip to inside lip). And for 26-12.00x12 tires, the wheels will need to be 13" wide (inside lip to inside lip). To figure the width of the steel, if the wheel was originally 5" in width, for a 13" wide wheel, the piece of 33-3/8" long flat steel will need to be 8" wide (5" - 13" = 8"). If the wheel is originally 8-1/2" wide, the steel will need to be 4-1/5" wide, etc. (8.5" - 13" = 4.5") The width of all wheels are always measured from the inside lip from one rim to the other. See picture to the right. |
That's a pretty big lathe we need.
14" swing? That's an industrial sized machine. Looks like I'm not doing that any time soon. |
HUH??........Did someone ask how to widen wheels?
Is that what you did with your Cub today? I'm totally confused. :bash2: |

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s..._Dude/Red1.jpg Rims are 8 1/2 inches wide. 23-10.50 12 tires: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...b_Dude/304.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Dude/gen08.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s..._Dude/201b.jpg Rims are 8 1/2 inches wide. I don't want a rim wider than the tread. |
merk how come you took those nice ags off the 100?
|
Ags are back on. Ags will come off during the summer months. Pavement is too hard on the ags.
|
OK, I did this today....New front matching AG's and new tubes. I didn't realize the fronts I had already had new tubes in them..Guess I have a couple spares...

That looks good!
|
Lookin great .
|
Your ags look awesome, bignastyGS! :beerchug:
|
Merk,
Tell me more about that red tricycle tired Cub..I seen them at Penns Cave antique show and I am leaning hard to wanting one. Is there a kit involved? Custom built only? What tractors can you convert to that? I think they look sweet... Just wish it was nice out so I could have cleaned the front rims and seat pan to primer and paint, but I guess I will do that in the spring. My next job is buying the barbell weights and getting the wheel weight brackets installed.I have to finish removing the spindles from the mower deck and take the deck to the powdercoater and the blades to my buddy to get sharpened. What have you guys gotten me into...:biggrin2.gif: |
