Thanks!, this is my first season with this machine and it has not seen snow before just been a grass mower. Put the 451 on, chains, 75lb wheel weights, loaded the tires and added the weight bar on the rear, it's been a dream!!

ACecil 01-28-2014 10:48 PM

Hopefully, I'll be plowing some snow for the first time with the 782! :beerchug:

1811woody 01-29-2014 11:41 AM

Still no snow Allen? bummer! Perhaps people traveling for plow days should also get an event for snow plow days :bigthink: My driveway is open for such an event LOL

ACecil 01-29-2014 01:17 PM

We got 3" overnight. Pics of the fun soon!

I bought a new battery (26R-3) for my 1863. The old one was getting weak last summer but I wanted to wait till spring to buy a new one. But, at the point where it wouldn't crank after being on the charger for a day I went to Walmart, had them check the battery (dead cell) and bought a new one. I've had the deck in the garage since fall when I sharpened the blades and greased everything but would like to get it back on the tractor and out of the way.

It didn't all happen today, but I adjusted the safety so the 169 would turn over. Then thanks to the information on this site and Matt G I tore the carb apart and replaced the head gasket after it blew. Wired the lights up too, but I need a new bulb. Oh and changed the oil and air filter. Now it's running like a top.

Good to hear! I don't like seeing 169's not feeling good!

Great pics Todd.

Today, I reassembled the S/G for my 100 and got it charging again. The field wire had broken loose from the terminal inside and the brushes were worn down to half their original size. Reattached the field wire and put in new brushes and it should be good for many more years. I also threw the armature in my lathe and hit the commutator with some emery cloth to clean it up.

Catching up, did a little last weekend and this weekend. Painted up the blades on both machines. Put a volt meter in and a rear light on the 2072. Neighbor tried out the 2072 on the 1 inch of ice we got. He fell in love with the machine. and I have the snow blower all ready for our storm this week for Sam.

Well technically it was "what did I do with my Cub yesterday" but I hope that won't ruffle too many feathers, har har. Woke up to see 5 - 6 inches of heavy wet snow, think perfect snow ball material. Fortunately, I had brought the 1862 up from the shed and parked it in the garage the night before so it was just a simple matter of opening the garage door and getting busy throwing some snow. After I finished with my driveway, I noticed that several neighbors hadn't been out to do their drives so I made the rounds on the cul du sac. Then I headed down the road to a good friend who had hurt his back and cleaned his drive, and then went to the friends house who drives my daughter to school, and then I went ......

All told I cleared 10 drives in about 90 minutes. Of course, mother nature had to throw her two cents into the equation and dumped a steady rain on me after the first 3 driveways (found out the Carhart jacket isn't waterproof AT ALL) so I weighed a good 20 lbs heavier when I got back inside.

I'm really amazed at how much snow my 20+ year old tractor/blower can move. It clearly likes to throw the snow further to the right than the left but I plan on putting some rubber tips on the impeller blades to see if that will help. Overall it was a good day in the saddle.

The Clarence modification.. yes, you will notice a throwing distance improvement. I have done it to about 6 walk behind throwers of all brands, Helped in all cases.

Same weather we had here on Long Island. I got the bulk of the heavy snow plowed before it changed to sleet than rain. The second time out was to clear about 2" of heavy heavy mush.

Swapped out the QA36 for an upgrade. An H42. The old saying "All gave some, Some gave all?" The QA36 pretty much gave all.

Found the H42 on CL, it appears to be a low use unit, I gave it a good going over tightened to chain lubed it all up and proceeded to fight the crap out of it, to get it mounted on the 782.

That is the most difficult implement I ever put on old red, MAN. But once it was mounted up, I took her out and let the big dog eat!

Deck for the one on the right is currently being restored.

Started the boy on learning to run a snow blower. Doing well so far :-) We got a few inches of snow so he and I cleaned a few driveways.
Darn thing is eating belts so need to look at my alignment closer.

Oh, He only runs enough throttle to clear the blower which is why it is not throwing much.

Wait to you see the video.

I pulled my cadet out of the barn to attach a brinley grader box I purchased yesterday. It suddenly stopped. Engine was running fine, but I had no forward or reverse when moving the lever. Popped the tunnel cover off and saw that the coupler was spinning on the hydrostatic transmission shaft. I thought the splines on the shaft were gone and panicked when I saw that the shafts cost over $500!

Pulled it apart and fortunately the splines on the shaft were in OK shape, but the coupler splines were gone all except for a few tiny stubs.

How in the world could this happen? Found a used one from one of this forum's parts suppliers (Patton Acres) for $60. Painful, but not as bad as it could have been.

Very common. I suggest that you buy another and keep it in stock while you can find them.

I may try to do that. I tried searching the internet to find a used one to no avail, so I made a list and started calling. It wasn't too hard to find, but they don't seem plentiful.

This 2072 sure had a lot of problems that weren't obvious when I picked it up. Hopefully I can get them all worked out before the first cutting of grass.

BTW, nice looking cubs in the pic above!

Got the snow team out yesterday!

Got a little wood in and a little snow blown.

The 551 on the 2086 sure does the best job of all the blowers that dad and I have.

782 it looks to me that your boy had an excellent teacher. Just do not let him have all the seat time.

Cubcrazy 02-12-2014 03:52 PM

Great vid of the 782 in action!

782CC 02-12-2014 04:29 PM

Thanks Paul. He is learning well. Watching it I am really pleased at how comfortable he is. I don't get to run it if he is around. But I do have a H48 for my 2072 that I will use as well if we ever get enough snow. For the smaller amounts I blade the drives out to the street with the 2072 and he throws it into the yard. As he learns I will let him clear driveways with it. Oh, and after I have the electric chute control on it.
Surprising how good phones are now, that vid turned out really well I think.

Eric,
I am more than a little envious of that monster blower you have there. Really sweet.

Tim
