Ditto to what Duke said!:beerchug: |
Well I did a little trouble shooting on the power steering and I have come to the conclusion that the steering cylinder has bad seals in it. Has anyone repaired one of these cylinders before? I am not sure what end of the cylinder I should cut the welds on. I have already talked to the local Mitten fluid power guys and they can set me up with a seal kit if I can get it apart. Would like to hear if anyone has attempted this before and the outcome. Thanks in advance. Kelly

One of the Mittens is a good friend of mine. My guess is if your going to try to rebuild it you should put it in a lathe and remove the weld on the end the attaches to the frame. Then when you weld it back together the seals on the rod end won't get as much heat. |

I looked up the price for the cylinder, they are proud of that to say the least. Wondered what the BXRS refers to? Sam |

Sam Mac I got the steering cylinder rebuilt at work today. There is no seals on the piston it is an o-ring. The o-ring was all galled up no wonder it didn't steer worth a darn. The o-ring is a size 182. That was an extremely simple project to do. It was all of a 45 minute job from start to finish. Can't wait till the morning to reinstall it. The bxrs is short for my dogs.

Did you take some pics of the rebuild? I'd like to see what's involved. Are you in the Syracuse area, or as Mitten calls it Tundracuse? Sam |
Sam Mac The rebuild was just exactly like you described. I did it at work and they really frown on cameras being used in the shop. Dismissible offense if you know what I mean. I did not replace the shaft seal as it was not leaking. Sam I am about 25 minutes south of Syracuse in a town called Cortland N.Y.

I have a friend that used to work for Pall corp in Cortland. I used to travel out that way on the way to Watkins Glen. Spent way too much time at that track.:biggrin2: |
I just want to know, how fast was the truck going when it FELL OFF??? OMG! What the heck happened to it when you started? Looks good now, but before it was in pretty SAD shape! :biggrin2:
