I wonder if you couldn't just put some spacers under the mounts and foot pads and raise the tank and fenders enough to clear?:bigthink:

tank

I just switched my 1572 rear to cast for the fuel tank I used the back fitting for fitting that go up to the fuel pump then plug the front hole with a well plug then drilled a 1/2 hole just above front hole on the side of fuel tank installed gramet then installed fitting for return line used all of old fittings very simple as for or say if you have pto which I do I ground off bolts on old alm. plate then put the two plates togather using the bottom center holes for alignment drill all holes welded on new bolts also this will cover fill plug so I just drilled new fill plug off to the right this has to be done just right cause there is no room for mistakes just a little note. install rear cover then fill from top then make sure you have no oil leaks before you install rest of pto cause my new oil fill plug is dripping it did not seal up right also once done this way there is no way to get to your fill plug cause rear cover for 3 point covers all the rear end I did have a tool and die maker look in to drilling out cast rear to install fill tube back through fuel tank he said it may be done but the out come might be worth the risk as the casting is very thin in that spot and might just end up with a boat anchor.ps.if some is willing to talk me through how to put pic.on here I did learn how to use camra will work on spelling on next prodject

thanks for your input guys, ill be digging back into it tomorrow. that is after i replace my drive axle seal on my car.

Easiest way is to make or find spacers and raise the tank up to get needed clearance. Then make spacers to go under foot rests and fender brackets. In the end the entire fender pan will get raised up.

i got the tank in today and fits perfect. i decided to relocate the return line. i got a plug from the hardware store for 40cents to plug the hole. i drilled a new hole on the side of the tank for the return. then i sat the tank back in and its a perfect fit. on a side note, when i pulled the shut off valve off i found a small screen on it, boy was it jammed up. im surprised the engine was even running.
