So no one know's how to tell the difference between a series 1 and 2 tiller just from looking at a picture? Still running into a lot of people who have no clue what they are selling!
:bash2: |
I would have to say a series 1 as it has the removable end caps to allow for the extensions. That looks to be about 36". But that is just my opinion though.

The tiller in the wheelbarrow is a Series 1 , four sets of tines on it. There was also a 1A , that had an extension bolted on it.
The Series 2 is wider , six sets of tines instead of four. And , the round tine guard is one piece . Extensions can be bolted to both sides of a Series 1 . Series 1 ... four sets of tines 1A ... five sets of tines ( extension bolted on either side ) Extensions can be added to both sides Series 2 ... six sets of tines , no extensions. The brace on tine guard goes from end to end. Darrell |
Thanks Darrell! That is pretty much to the point....that is what I am looking for. It amazes me how many people out there have no idea what they are selling, how can you sell something if you know nothing about it...pretty hard to answer questions about it?:bash2:

Some things need to be clarified here.
#1 tiller could have come with zero, one, or both extensions. Same for the #1A. Both are 26" without the extensions, and ~36" with both extensions. The #2 is exactly the same thing, except the extensions are permanent, and the housing is one-piece and the same width as the #1 and #1A with both extensions attached. The #2B is the same as a #2, but has a 5/8" drive pulley on the gearbox for use on 82 series tractors. None of these will bolt up to a 982 or other SGT and work. |
Matt , If you have a 982 with a cast rear and without the PTO and three point in the way , i don't see why you couldn't use a belt driven tiller on a 982 , getting a belt that long may be the only problem.
With some fab work , it could be mounted on an aluminum rear 982. The 982 had the optional PTO driven tiller , but good luck finding one. And that is if you have a PTO on your 982. I happen to have a cast rear 982 , may have to give it a try. I think the extensions are 6" , with both extensions a #1 would be 38" total. |
