The place to look is where the wires for the v/r come from under the fender pan to the battery tray.I know the pos batt terminal has a plastic protector on the frame there.

I'm stumped. I checked the wires coming thru the pan .
It's still overcharging and pegged out When off returns to center. Battery is new and don't want to destroy it. |
Sounds to me like the "F" wire from V/R to starter generator F terminal is grounding and full fielding the generator. Need to verify charging voltage at battery, it's it's 15 or more volts with meter pegged you need to test continuity from that wire to ground with one of the ends of the wire isolated or disconnected. Disconnect F wire from s/g and run it, and if it returs to normal you have a short to ground on that wire or bad v/r. As Lew said, Wide frame wiring runs inside frame to under seat where v/r is located and sounds like it's being pinched somewhere but tests will show if it is or not

Ok I took the wire off the s/g and started it up
Meter dropped just under center. Can I cut grass like that or am I getting spark from the battery only and will run it down? I'm an electrical moron |
You can cut the grass, but the battery will run down eventually as nothing is charging it.

I see no mention anywhere in this thread of any "hard" numbers indicating an overcharge.... OP, have you put a multi-meter on the system and confirmed it is actually over charging??
