This one is in pretty good shape with a little over 1000 hours on the meter......but the Onan is locked up.

I pulled the motor and broke out the pressure washer. She cleaned up pretty good and the original paint should buff out nice...I hope.

Wheeled her into the shop to pull the rear and do all the normal stuff. Here is a shot of the rear pto.

The rear looked good and the Hytran did its job. Just a little bit of gel on the bottom. This one will get Hytran put back in it.

Check this out. The brake hub is cracked and the aluminum caliper mount is broke in half. I'm pulling the axles to replace the seals and drill the drain holes so I will see if I can weld the hub.

Todd, I had a couple of those aluminum caliper brackets break in the exact same way, with the crack radiating from the point were the casting is angled to go around the tube. It was always one side and not the other. I found that the side that WAS NOT cracking had a spacer washer between the strap and the bracket. I think the part number is 736-3010. I went to my dealer got them under warranty along with a new bracket and problem was solved. Must have been a Monday build. The dealer and I theorized that without the washer, there was too much force on the inside of the bracket when the bolts were tightened down and bent the strap to mate on the surface of the bracket. I don't know if the 982 uses them as well but it was worth a shot.

Very nice Todd! Looking forward to your progress!:beerchug:

Thanks guys. I'm not sure what happened to the caliper mount or hub. Nothing else looks damaged on the machine and every bolt was super tight with some type of retaining compound on it. I'll look into what Frank said about the washers. I noticed some washers fell off when I removed the bolts with the impact wrench but didn't notice where they came from. Good thinking John, I will check the axles when I get it put back together to see if they are bent.

The engine....I have a diesel and a extra fuel tank but I can't do that to a 982 so the Onan that I'm doing in the engine section will be going into this one. It is a P220 which is not the correct one but close enough. I stopped by the machine shop Friday and he said I need to go 20 over on the pistons and 20 under on the rods. I need to get those ordered so he can finish his work up.

I didn't pull the B48G apart yet to see what it needs but I have another loaded 982 that needs an engine so I'm hoping I can have this one rebuilt for that 982.

I stopped by my dealer and picked up the rear gaskets and rag joints on Friday. Sunday before the game I cleaned the rear up for reassembly. I still need to drill the drain holes for the axles.

I've not even seen where you can buy oversize pistons for the old Onan's. Then again, I never really, really looked either.

Very nice score Todd! Congrats! :beerchug:

I was thinking they were a little much but then I pulled up some Mag parts and felt a little better...not much.

Ouch...

Can you bore and sleeve it back to standard, assuming you have a good set of pistons?

MikeMasheris 02-21-2016 11:57 AM

Work = Busy / Cub repair = slow:angry:

I did get the hood buffed out and I'm happy how it looks. I'm hoping I can save the paint and keep that part original.
Attachment 73208

I relined the brakes and painted them up.
Attachment 73209

I did put and indicator on the axles as John talked about and they were okay but the brake disc I welded was warped and got replaced.
Attachment 73210

I also put a set of rear braces on it while it's apart.
