Stick one of the hardware store bolts thru the head and see if there are enough threads sticking out the bottom. No big deal.

I did that. If I use only the original washer there aren't enough threads but if I use a grade 8 washer from TSC it looks like I'll be fine. I'll get a pic tonight of how it looks with the washers.

Lew, I was thinking that too but I don't think I have anything that will tap a grade 8 bolt.

Sam, I thought about using the grade 8 threaded rod but I wasn't sure on how to cut it.

You can tap grade 8 with a standard die.
You can cut grade 8 threaded rod with a chop saw or a hacksaw.

Yeah.... that's fair, lol. Most all of mine say "Snap-On" on them, lol.

I had a Onan headbolt break before.. It wasn't any problem to cut more threads on a new grade 8 bolt with some good Vermont American USA dies.
