Find a used one and cut the worn thread section off and weld a new section w/thread from a short piece of 1" black iron pipe.
A 4" or so nipple should yield enough mat'l to repair 2 elbows.

They sell weld on elbows in 45*/90* for making things like hand rails as well as welded black pipe for high pressure lines for industry.
Long sweep elbows are available also, I've seen them on evil pay, one could also try Granger.
You could get fancy and go stainless also :biggrin2:

$120 but there is a best offer option. I've bought from them with good results, and they will deal a bit on price.

A quick google search shows tons of 90 degree, stainless street elbows for less than $15 . Buy a six inch stainless nipple to and cut one end to length, screw together and done.

Wow, $120 for an elbow!! No gouging there. :Shame:

If I can ever get mine out in one piece, you can have it.

Yeah $120 is a rip off

Thank you Ambush!

Your opinion, BUT an even bigger rip off yet is a used rusty turd of one for $80 PLUS $10.55 S&H..

Just remember that MTD's list price is $154.81.

Once you figure out that restoring and repairing these Cubs is not a venture for cheap ass SOB's, you will be better off.

Those rusty elbows don’t look half bad. Even if the threads are messed up it’s pretty trivial to weld the threaded end of a nipple on, like finsruskw said. Plus, if you buy a threaded-both-ends nipple, you can use the unused half to clean out the threads in the block. Just cut some slits across the threads with a grinder or dremel to create a makeshift “tap.”

But there is a difference between a serious collector and someone who just appreciates a good running machine, and likes to be practical on expenses.
