The 70 was in great shape. The hood is straight and all the pieces are there. The deck carriage had some bubblegum welding on it, so I'm going to undo and redo that, and it has a replacement engine in it, so painting it red shouldn't offend too many. Here's a pic of what I'm thinking

The green was already restored by a neighbor who is a green freak! His family divided up the farm (a few hundred acres) in front of my house way before I moved in, and amongst the 10 or so families of them they must have 3 dozen greenies from garden to farm tractors. All look brand new. I was the rogue cowboy running yellow & white when I moved in, so I thought I'd throw them a bone. So he and his son repair and restore them and his work is excellent. I knew I could put this right into service as an 'as new' tractor with all the attachments. (thrower, blade, weights & tiller). I definitely wouldn't want to break it down like I did the 70:crap:

Back on topic, I'll try to post pics as things progress. The archived threads are a Godsend, I knew I had posts over there that I wanted to refer to as well as posts by others.

How far did the shifter spin before the repair?? I have a original that the shifter spins side to side about 6?-8? inches that id like to repair,the shifter on my 70 didnt spin.

That 70 is comeing apart!!
Whats the model of the super in the last pic??? Id love to have a 982 or 982D

Great pictures. Your favorite looks like a nice clean tractor :ThumbsUp:

The shifter spun 360*. If you look at the second pic, that cup is supposed to be attached to the shifter. (Like the 3rd pic after I rewelded) It was loose in the shifter housing. I'm not sure if the O is the same shifter or not (don't have one) but I don't believe you have to split the tractor to pull the unit for a look. Go the "Technical Archives" and there is a three part thread on a spinning shifter with detailed pic's.

The last pic is my daughters favorite. That's the one that she drives since it's a hydro. It's an 1862, not a super. It has power steering and the 18 hp Kohler.


Jaybird - that 70/100 does look nice. I think you've made up my mind on the color scheme.

If I have time tonite, I think I'll drain the fuel, mark & remove the wiring harness and then remove the tower. Then once I get the engine out I'll be ready to power wash everything.

Another hour or so in the garage.

Stopped after I couldn't break the bolts on the mule drive. I'll have to fire up the compressor and impact wrench for that. Here' she is partially stripped!:bigeyes:

Next, remove mule, front end and motor. Then power washing and stripping starts!

Quick update! I stopped at my local CC dealer to pickup a couple bearing cups for rebuilding the steering column. Me and Toygirl were out in the garage last nite prepping and rebuilding it. Aside from both of us having our hands covered in grease, it was a great evening. Column is tight and smooth. I think I'm going to get a load of parts together to take to the sandblaster, but I'll have to tear down the deck first. Went thru my paint cabinet and I have a quart of yellow, white and 1/2 quart of black, plus leftover epoxy primer. I'll have to buy IH Red if I go that route. I was considering going with skinny rears (actually bought rims), but the pic with the 12x12's looks amazing!
