did you swap out the stamped pulley for a solid one or was there already a solid pulley on the right(spring) side?

I didn't change the pulleys, My guess would be it's a stamped pulley, I remember seeing a line down the middle. After finishing and testing I went back and looked at the book and saw it mention changing out the pulleys.

What I do not understand is what is the difference in turning the mower vs a gearbox:Huh:

The belt on a tiller is considerably tighter than a mower deck belt, which is the reason for the billet steel pulleys. They are probably going to be impossible to find though. I used to till with a 128, and I put a set of those on there. I think they were $60+ each, and they were NLA but the dealer had a pair laying around.

As long as you aren't tilling all day, every day, the stamped ones will probably be ok. Just keep an eye on them.

Sounds good. I tilled for about 30 min... now I'm trying to see if there is anything else I can till this year or if I should just pull everything back off.

You better put out ads for tilling. Then all of your work will pay for itself and you get to have the fun!

my tiller was heavily rusted also. The tensioner was so rotted, that it broke off, even after torching the nut side, so I drilled and tapped it, then welded a new bolt to the underside of the handle.
The spring was underneath, between the housing, and the lower plate.
I'll switch it to under the handle to see if that works better.
I had to spend the better part of the day tilling (moved the garden), and I found two boulders in the middle so my nieghbor had to remove them with his backhoe (freakin huge machine!)!!!
I'm having 6 yards of cow manure dumped this week, then I'll rake it out, then at the end of april, I'll give it another tilling to mix it in, then I'll be planting by the 1st week of may.
My garden's 40' x 100' , with a raised area (stone wall style, 1' high) that's 15'x20' for the squash and zucchini because they need good drainage.
I'm excited about this years crop. Last year it rained so much that by september I still had green tomatoes that just wouldn't turn. Normally I have ripe tomatoes by middle of july....and everyone in this area had problems with root rot (inciuding myself).

Well after all that hard work my garden did not do to much this year. My carrots turned out great and my cayenne peppers did really good, still have some turning red on me. My tomatoes didn't do good at all, I could,'t pick one and eat it. My green peppers turned out mini sized, 2" across max on the biggest one. No beans blah blah blah. I'm about ready to plow it under and debating on trying next year. All that hard work, time and money for nothing to turn out, it's cheaper to buy it in the long run for me I guess.

I know what you mean, Magnum. Out tomatoes didn't do well this year either.

eastonct124 09-28-2010 10:51 PM

We got so many cucs 9t was unreal. Tomatoes just started turning two weeks ago, but the plants are done so alot of the fruit is starting to rot.
I've been picking eggplant for two weeks now, and still getting cherry peppers.....but everything else was a waste of time.
There's always next year.

tiller forsale in Topeka,Ks

There is a tiller forsale in Topeka,Kansas . It is listed on Craigslist for $300 or $350. I called on it today only because he also has a vacume. I already have a tiller so here is your chance.

I faired out pretty decent this year all things considered with the dear! Sweet corn was great, carrots though late turned out beautiful, the half of the beets the deer didn't eat were good (so the wife says, I don't eat them). Tomatoes were kinda crappy...seemed like I had wilt or something with the leaves, sprayed them a couple times - didn't seem to help any. I am having issues with my onions though! They grew well all summer long, started to dry down, so I pulled them and put them on some chicken wire off the ground in the sun. The stupid things keep getting mushy and start rotting. I can throw a couple out every other day? Stupid things! The only ones that seem to be keeping ok is the red ones and some Spanish ones. The sweet white ones are JUNK! Have no idea what I am doing wrong? I roll them into the garage at night on the trailer once the sun starts to set so the dew doesn't fall on them? I am almost at the point of not planting onions anymore because they won't keep. Any suggestions or does anyone else have this problem? :bash2:
