I worked on fixing up the mower deck for my 126. It's a 42" cast iron end deck that came off of my 100. After 46 years off use and abuse it needed a little work. It had a bow to it and it was cracked around the rear hanger brackets. It also has a couple rust holes along the back edge. I got it straightened and made a couple patches to fill in where I cut out around the rear hangers and got them tack welded in. Next up is repairing the rust holes and making new baffles since they're long gone. A while back I made a new spindle and picked up a new pulley for the left side since they were worn out. The other 2 spindles are in pretty good shape. I may try to rig up an anti scalp wheel for the front of the deck.

Have not been able to do too much last few weeks. It has been cold here and I don't have much heat in the shop. I was able to use my new micrometer to check the crankpin on the 128 crank. It will need to be cut .010. It had the flat spot at the top of the crank where it is at top of stroke. Otherwise it measured out within max spec. Still waiting on a bigger micrometer so I can check the cylinder bore, altho I know with the amount of ridge built up at the top I am looking at least a .010 over bore if not .020.
On the plus side, I pulled the top plate off of the tranny of the 128 and topped it off with fresh fluid. Made a new gasket and buttoned it back up. I have the new valve guides on my desk, waiting to be installed soon into the 128 engine. I did check out the shifter while it was out and did not see any cracks or needed repairs. It looked great. |
I got more seat time this afternoon. I think I have the thrower dialed in finally. I gave it a good going over last night, swapped out belts and shimmed the gear box to get more angle to it and added some drift cutters also..

JayBrd, that is one fine looking Cub! I noticed you don't have any tire chains or wheel weights. Ever have a problem with traction? Living in Wisconsin as you do, you're certainly an expert when it comes to snow removal. Really great photos, too! Thanks for sharing.

back together
well got my 127 back together today. I rebuilt a #26 carb for it, redid the breather assembly, autolite 216 plug, changed the oil and new S/G belt....... I got the high idle pretty well set, have to work on the low idle. I am new to setting this all up so I just need to play some more. Short video from today.

I used the Super to haul 1/2 cord of wood (several trips with the cart) from the splitter at the woodpile to the garage again today. A little snow in the backyard and no traction problems what so ever. Just rebuilt the carb a tank full ago and she was running like a top. I got fresh gas again today. Now it's idleing rough. Dang E-10 fuel. My son is home for the holidays from school. So I got him to help and we loaded the Haban Blade and the 450 blower on the trailer and brought them up to the garage so they can be used if needed. I'll probably mount up the blade tomorrow after work. |
