Patched a hole and added a couple braces to the Haban today. We may get some lawn mowing weather some day and wanted to be ready for it...:biggrin2:
|
Ah, braces on the 374. Very nice.

680 Hydro
This is more of a "What did I do with my Cub This Weekend" post.
The 680 was in need of some major TLC on the motor and mower deck. For the engine department I Seafoamed the engine which seemed to help with a sticking exhaust valve. I've been running the MMO since I got it just in the fuel. I did an oil change after the Seafoam and added some MMO to the engine oil as well. I only run Non-Ethanol fuel, but the previous owner didn't. I did a carb rebuild on the K301. The float needle had been sticking causing it to flood the carb and stink up the garage. While at it I replaced all the fuel lines and added an In-Line fuel shut-off (I was using needle nose vice grips previously to choke of the fuel so I didn't flood the engine - petcock is hard to get to on these engines for "everyday" use. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...281BBE1624.jpg I also replaced the rubber engine mounts. Those babies were SHOT! Between the seafoam, carb rebuild and new mounts the old girl runs like a top now. I also fiddled with all the cables - cleaned the choke cable as it was sticking. While reinstalling the carb the K301 wanted to rev to the moon, but I followed the static governor settings and reined the motor back in. Gave me an excuse to use the Laser RPM meter I have :biggrin2: On the deck I power washed it. Repainted the bottom, its not great job, but it will keep the rust away until I can get the deck sand blasted. I also replaced the tensioner pivot bolt that holds the idler to the deck. The original one was rust welded to the pivot. It was not easy getting it all separated and cleaned up. The new bolt has a Zerk fitting so it can be greased to prevent this. I had to zap a hole in the top cover of the deck so I could service it without having to remove the top cover. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...E5753B9E98.jpg I also made a "Striping Kit" for the deck. I got my hands on some heavy duty rubber and fastened it to the back of the deck. I believe this is similar in concept to how Ferris does their kits on their decks. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...629B312C1B.jpg Now she's ready to mow snow:bigeyes: (Thanks Ohio!): http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...6C0DD94AEB.jpg Thanks for reading - its a long post, but I pulled some long hours tinkering on the old girl. |
Great pics, guys!

1864 wakes up
1 Attachment(s)
Woke up the 1864 today from a long winter slumber. I had it on a battery tender all winter but since it was pretty cold here today had to give it a kick start with the jumper box to get it to fire. The battery isn't too new so that probably didn't help.
Seems too early to mow! :bigthink: Ran like a champ, just wish it had a cab and heater today! |
Nice 1864, you have there!

Put a new set of wheels on the rear of the Haban. McMaster-Carr was MUCH cheaper than the originals. I put the same on the fronts last year and they wore good, so we'll try them on the rears.
Needed to notch out a spot to get on the grease zerk with the grease gun, I'll straiten it out later...:bigthink: Also made a new set of "axles" while I was at it. Then installed a new belt, so now "IF" it ever warms up here I'll be ready for the grass mowing festivities...:beerchug: |
Only cool guys have mag wheels on there mower decks.:biggrin2:

Wive first ride.
Mowed the farm for my first time. The wife had never used the 1811 before. I showed her a few things and off she went. She got about 5 hours of seat time, me about 2. My phone is not playing well with the computer. I can't get a photo.:bigthink:

First day here warm enough to have the shop doors open.:beerchug:
Had to adjust the clutch on the Original. And built a short extension for the exhaust on the 1872... |
nice lift Todd.

Looking good, Todd!

I think out of everything I ever bought for working on a tractor, that HV hoist was the best buy. Quote:

Aerated the lawn with the 1872 today.:beerchug:
I know it's a little overkill, but wanted to put some time on the new engine so I can change the oil before putting the Haban on for the year... |
Very nice Todd.:beerchug:

Mowed the yard for the first time of the year yesterday. I was out on the grounds at 9:00 AM raking sticks and leaves. Cleaned up a dead tree that I had cut down earlier this winter. Removed random trash from the woods around the lawn - we purchased this home last year and the grounds had not been touched in years!!! I moved over 3 wheelbarrows full of JUNK. I didn't get to actual grass cutting until 5:30 PM, but the Cub did a great job! I made a striper for it earlier (I posted it in here) and now I get to see it work:
http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...g?t=1460806873 http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...g?t=1460806738 http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...12bf71a63b.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...bfa147d3f2.jpg The effect is better on the front yard where I have better grass (first 3 pics) and the back yard needs some seed and fertilizer to catch up, but still noticeable (last pic). All and all I am happy.:biggrin2: |

I mowed, pulled a trailer of wood down from the top of the hill for a small fire, towed my old craftsman to the top of the back yard from the garage, hauled a couple trailer loads of trash to my truck to take to the dump, and then blew the grass off, washed, blew it off again, greased it and parked it.
Glad to have her for a workhorse... |
Looking good zippy!
no grass cutting yet! |

Nother week or so for grass cutting.:beerchug: |
Yesterday I mowed with the 1211 for the first time and was very pleased with how well it cut then I got my first real seat time of the year on my 108 pulling around the lawn sweeper, the rest of the day was spent cleaning the shed up to have room for two cubs and filling the pool.

Great pics, guys! Thanks for sharing.

Got the big deck under the 2284 after changing the engine oil, filter, completely greased, then cut the tall spots in the lawn. Finally some tractor time with my rear in the seat and not just repairing!
