While I had the cover plate off the underside of the 1863 I decided to touch up the paint a little. I worked on both sides with a cup brush on the 4 inch grinder then washed it down with paint thinner. I brought the cover and the Rusty Metal Primer in the house to warm up before I spray it. I'm out of the 'close enough' yellow I use so I'll need to pick up another can of it. I got this gallon of thinner at Walmart a few weeks ago and didn't notice that it was "Environmentally Friendly". It doesn't even smell like thinner.

practice with the mig welder, snow blade repair

2 Attachment(s)
I have a snow blade with one of the cotter pin holes blown out. See pic. Not sure how the PO did this but I'll fix it today.

Cleaned it up a bit with a Norton Blaze disk and wrapped it with copper to keep the weld from mushrooming. Then I dropped a steel washer on it so I didn't need so much wire. Then I filled it up with mig steel. See final product.

Looks great! Now hit a stump or curb at 3 mph and see if it holds. I know factory will. :biggrin2::beerchug:

I figured I only have to be stronger than the cotter pin. Time will tell.

I didn’t know it was possible to frown on a smoker. Cheer up Allen, it’s not a Deere.

bugeye 01-29-2019 06:19 AM

Great looking Cub. All those leaves, hope you didn't overwork the smoker.:biggrin2:

ACecil 01-29-2019 12:58 PM

Finally a nice day in NC! We've had rain everyday for nearly a month. I had to get the 1512 out of hibernation...lol! It fired right up after sitting for almost a month.

Looking good, would love to pick up one of those smokers one day but they’re fairly uncommon around where I am

LED light upgrade

3 Attachment(s)
I replaced the original headlights with LED floodlights. Now I can really see when I need to use the tractor in the dark.
Got the lights on clearance at Menard's for $23. I had previously installed the same LED lights on the cab.
I cut out the back of the front panel, where the headlights had been so the lights insert into the cutouts, behind the factory lens. Lamps are secured to the plastic with epoxy.
Tractor is a 1541 with a 450 snowblower, and an Allis Chalmers vinyl cab with fiberglass roof.

Weight box

1 Attachment(s)
Made a weight box for extra traction when blowing snow.
I have a 1541 with a 450 snowblower, and found the rear tires slip when blowing snow on icy surfaces. Box mounts to the 3 point hitch. Made from 5 salvaged aircraft seat bases, and filled with landscape pavers.

I started scraping some of the rocks back into the driveway that were plowed off over the winter. When it dries out a little more, I can start to spread them.
