No pics today, (tomorrow) but did get several lines plumbed last night. That part is going well and easier than I expected. So much so that I might add the aux split to the rear. Now for the bad news. The power steering is clocked correctly per the ports. So must pop out the tube a remount or rotate the whole unit 90 deg. The tube looks to be tacked in. Not sure if I want to mess with it. jeesh.

Tim, you don't have to pop the tube out.... It is welded to the flange that is bolted to the top of the pump with the four bolts. Just unbolt the handpump, pull it down the a little, pop the top flange/tube off and rotate it. Bolt it all back up. Easy peezy. :beerchug:

whew! I was dreading that fix. Once again the knowledge here shows awesomeness of the members. I will rotate it tonight.
On aux ports out the rear. I will want those in the future for angle blade options. Would like to put a 3way/selector valve in the tunnel so i can chose front or rear ports without unhooking lines. Any thoughts on a valve? Can be pretty small. Only running 1/4 line to these guys. |
How fancy to you want to go? :biggrin2:
You can do just a regular switching valve......... Manual Selector Valve Or, you could do an electric one. Then, either use a toggle switch to go between, or mount a momentary push button on the lever, that you can hit with your thumb, to switch it........ Electric Selector Valve I like the electric option. :biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2: |
I was looking at some today. Would like to find a smaller one. Don't need 20gpm or the large size with it. Electric I like. But does add another 1.8 amp draw for the system with the smallest I could find. If I do an alt then it won't matter.
So many choices in life. |
I wasn't suggesting you buy the ones I linked to..... I guess I should have said that they were just for reference. I agree, the one valve is pretty large. I just grabbed the first one I saw. :beerchug:
Unless you have added a whole lot of lights, (or some other high amp draw) the 1.8 amps isn't going to put you over on load. The only time that it would be a problem would be if you had everything possible on. |
Sorry if my frustration came thru on the valve. I was pretty eager about the plan, searched a lot yesterday, only to find behemoth sizes for a GT. Amp draw can be a concern. I like to power back for the snow thrower when not needed. PTO, lights and wot can be a drain. I do have LEDs which makes a huge difference. But am not finished adding lights.
Really need to get this thing wrapped up. So may take this one as a later task. Is going to happen though. |
It's fine. :beerchug:
I run 6 incandescent's, plus the little red ones on the rear, plus the PTO and never, NEVER had an issue with the battery charging. I really don't think the extra load is gonna be a problem. I understand wanting to get it all done! FWIW, switching valves are pretty bulky, no matter how small. The Cub Lo-Boys had an optional one on them. Very small pump on them too and the valve itself was huge for what it was. They are just a big bulky thing unfortunately. That's why I like the electric ones, they seem to be smaller. But, they cost twice as much!! Good luck deciding! Wish I had time to get all my tractors running, let alone take on a custom project like your doing. I have a bunch of ideas, just no time to make them happen. I've spent a lot of hours planning the exact project you are on now, that's why I've taken such an interest in it. Looking good, Tim! :beerchug: |

I want to say I tackled this only after seeing another on the site do the mods.
So I screwed up, I had taken a lot of pics of making the levers. The SD card in the phone crashed recently. I hope to find some I may have backed up or shared to my brother. They were easy to do with lathe, 3/4 bar and 2ft of 1 inch flat stock. Bends were made in a press to keep them crisp. One change for next set. I matched the bend on factory. I will move that up to clear the dash slot better on the next set. These fit but must be fully right in the slot or I will have to clearance the dash. I did get a couple things done last night. Made and welded(poorly) on spacers to my mounting plate. The mount is threaded so I don't have to deal with the nut on the back and wanted a little more offset away from the column. I set it up to fit the old valve as well. Used ex clamps to better attach to the column. Rusty(used) will get new ones. Also clocked the steering tube. Painted a few things and made remaining hyd lines. Debating to make new front aux and get rid of the rubber lines or just go with it. Have not bend tubing in a while so warming up on styling. oh, still need to make mounting brackets for the lines going back to the rear. I have a plan to make them, but may shortcut with some fancy spark plug wire holders from oreilly for now. |
looks good great upgrade
