Matt,

Sam is right; it's probably best to find (which you probably have already or have been given a link to) a manual pertaining to an IH tiller and at least look at all of the pictures. This should help considerably, both for your understanding and for the group if further troubleshooting is needed. As much as you probably didn't want to hear that...

Basically, the only item that is not tiller-specific that you'd need is the pivot directly under your seat, IIRC.

The manual(s) would also be a great help as they would show all of the parts required to make that specific attachment work correctly, which is important knowledge to have before going to look at whatever it may be.

Thanks Jeff in PA. The manuals will be very beneficial once I obtain the tiller. Looking at a manual and trying to comprehend without implement in hand is VERY difficult... Unless, of course you already have experience with these.

Yosemite, this isn't the EXACT thread I was reading but there are enough of them out there to choose from. Here's one about the "issue" I was talking about. And it's on OCC!

Thank you, litlmikeyl!

Yes, If you have a need to use sleeve hitch implements while the tiller gear box and bracket are attached, you will need a longer sleeve hitch adapter or sleeve hitch adapter extensions.

You do not need a sleeve hitch adapter at all to use the tiller.

Up until the other day you were under the impression that "a sleeve hitch and u adapter" would run your tiller... If you haven't familiarized yourself with the manual, how are you going to know if you are buying a pile of used parts or a good usable tiller?

Simple solution,.....get another Cub (you will more than likely end up with more than one anyway) to use with the sleeve hitch stuff!!!

Then use the tiller rig to mow with, and the sleeve hitch rig for plowing etc. Make it a GD and you will have all your bases covered!!

I have a RZT to mow with. And I was unsure if the sleeve hitch and u bracket would run a tiller.. which is why I created this post. Thanks for everyone's hard earned help :)

Picked up a new toy today. Model 1 tiller in good condition. PO lightly painted it white, so unfortunately the INTERNATIONAL sticker doesnt show itself like it should, but it's a solid tiller with no holes. He just didn't like the surface rust look it had. He also had the mounting bracket, gearbox, both belts, chains and lift pin. Hell he even gave my a sleeve hitch and lift arm (3pt). The gearbox and tines move freely and spin freely even after one twist of a hand. I need to get a mule drive now so I can hook the belts up and till my garden! Here's a pic yall might enjoy.

Does anyone see the level plug or filler plug? Here's a pic from the manual. The only 2 bolts I can see that might be what I'm looking for would be the 2 mounting bolts for the plate with the IH logo on it. Kinda looks like a #2 gearbox if you ask me. If that's the case, I know it's a sealed unit.

You don't have that style cover so the only way to check fluid level is to remove the cover.

You can either remove the mount or gear box OR park on hill / block up the one side of the tractor.

Thanks. I see everybody talking about a 50/50 of ep grease with gear oil, or just using JD corn head grease. Has anyone found out what works best? In the meantime I just want to open the cover and see what's going on inside. Is the gasket reusable? I've found that permatex black works wonders on these old leaky machines.
