Thanks for the update, almost makes me want to find another Cyclops to wrench on :beerchug:
|
Replaced the tank bushings and replaced the fuel lines today. Tank is back in place, shut off valves have been cleaned. Brakes are back on. Pretty much just little stuff. No pics today. Still dry under it so I guess the oil leaks are fixed. :beerchug:
|
Pulled the engine and radiator today. Drain valve on the side of the block was plugged solid. Tip for you guys with Kubota power, if you have the engine out for any reason remove the drain valve and clean it out. I will be relocating the valve so that it will actually drain, they way it was even if it wasn't plugged it couldn't be turned to open it up, very poor design. Radiator will be going to a radiator shop to be cleaned out, new hoses and belts and a set of gauges. Also need to clean and repack the CV joint for the steering while I can get to it. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

Deja vu, huh? You da Man, Sam! :beerchug:

Got the radiator back today and got started on the gauge install. Screwed up and used the wrong size hole saw on the center hole so I had to use the crappy little gauge panel that comes with the gauges to make it work. :bash2:
Oh well this one is going to be a worker anyway. Also got a start on the wiring. I need to draw a diagram before I go much further. Picked up a couple fittings from the local hydraulic shop for the oil pressure gauge and the drain at the bottom of the block. Here are a few pics. You'll notice that the frame has been painted over the rust. Gonna have to wire wheel it and pop it with some converter or rusty metal primer then some yellow. Seems like a common problem from battery leakage on the Kubota Cyclops. |
Sam,
Is that a cushy for your tushy I see? heheh Nice work so far. |

Hey Sam, I may have a spare dash panel that I can bring with me when I come for a visit. Probably the right price too. Free with free delivery!

Got a little more done today. Finished the drain in the block, drilled the thermostat housing for the gauge, installed a tee for the oil pressure gauge. Since I have the engine out I also cut the mounting plate for the starter to make it easier to remove when it's in the tractor. As they come from the factory they are a major PITA. I'll get a pic of the mod later. Relocated the fuel pump from under the fender pan to the engine mounting frame like it is on the diesels. Put some primer on the frame in the front where it was nasty. Hope to squirt some yellow on it tomorrow if the weather cooperates. Should have the new hoses and the fan belt late next week from the Bota dealer, then the engine can go back in. Now it's cocktail hour. Later kids.:biggrin2::beerchug:

Worked up a new wiring diagram for this one today. It will be just a bit simpler than what it came with. It's getting a key switch for the early 782's and a Kohler voltage regulator. Waiting for parts now. :biggrin2:
|
I luv threads like this!!! Lookin good Sam.
Y'all makin me wish I had a garage! |
Key switch and genuine made in china VR showed up today, now just waiting on the new hoses from Kubota before I can get back to work on this mess. It was warm enough today so I squirted some yellow paint on the front of the frame. Looks better than the rust but it's no show queen by any means. :beerchug:
|
Sam, Why the new VR? Less wiring or was there a charging problem with the Kubota VR?
|
Easier to wire. :beerchug:
|
Got most of the wiring harness put together today. Still waiting for 2 hoses but I got the important ones so I'll be able to progress with what I have. Hope to get the engine back in tomorrow or the next day. Using a switch for an early 782 makes the harness much easier to build, no diodes or any of the other fancy crap to deal with. :beerchug:

It lives! Got it up and running today. Everything works as it should. I'm a happy camper. Also got the 3 point back on, sorry no pics of the 3 point. I added a fuse block. The genuine made in China copy of a Kohler VR works great, sit's right on 14.5 volts. Engine smokes but it has 55 lbs of oil pressure. I need to see if it has valve guide seals, if so I may stick a new set in and see if that helps. Took it for a ride, sitting on the gas tank is not all that comfy.:biggrin2: Found out that the high water temp sender is defective, gotta order a new one. So here are a few pics for you guys. :beerchug: :beerchug:

Awesome Sam! :beerchug:
|
Looking GREAT Sam! I hope the smoking isn't too bad of an issue. I'm sure you'll get it cleared up in no time. Good luck! :beerchug:
|
Nice to finally get it running,Its a good feeling, not like sitting on the gas tank though...

Got a little more done on this poor old beast. Fenders, foot boards, seat and 3 point are done. Heim joints at the end of the lift arms for the 3 point need a little help from the fire wrench to get them loosened up, they were rusted solid. Only had to make a minor trim of the fenders and foot boards to clear the rear end brace figured I'd show just for the guys that seem to be concerned about a little trim work. you can see the before and after. Got the wiring wrapped in split loom. Now just some work under the hood and this one can head to my kids place in SC. Oh almost forgot the plow adapter from Xtreme. Nice work as always from Xtreme. :beerchug::beerchug:
|
Good work Sam, glad to hear that it runs.
|
Looks like a pretty nice tractor now, Sam!!
Could you have cut a 45° off the corner of the brace also? Or would it have been too close to the bolt hole? It is hard to tell from the angle of the pic. |

Your Super is looking good. I didn't see the sleeve hitch adaptor on Xtreme's website before. It looks great.

Today we addressed the "Why does my valve cover leak oil" as well as the worn out valve guide seals. No reason to replace the O-ring / valve cover gasket, we have silicone, 1st pic. Other 2 are removing the valve springs and replacing the seals. Procedure is pull the cover, remove the rocker shaft, pull one spark plug and screw in the hose to supply compressed air into the cylinder being worked on at the time, remove the keepers for the valve spring, pull the spring, remove the seal, clean, replace the seal, spring, keepers and repeat on the next cylinder. Install the rocker shaft, adjust valves (they were so far out of adjustment that I couldn't believe it). Reason for the compressed air is to hold the valves up when the keepers and springs are removed otherwise you run the risk of having a valve drop into a cylinder then it would be pull the head of time. Runs much better and the smoking is greatly reduced. Cocktail time now. :beerchug:
|
Looking good Sam. Good tip on the compressed air idea. :beerchug:
The valve "gasket" reminds me of my 782D. When running, it poured oil out of the valve cover. Pulled off the cover and the o-ring was nowhere to be found. Not even any silicone. Guess the PO figured if he/she tightened it enough, it wouldn't leak. :bash2: :biggrin2: |

I'll run it till it blows then drop something air cooled in it to finish it's life. It will probably out live me as it is. It would cost more to rebuild the WG600 than the tractor is worth. :beerchug: |

Did a little work on the PTO today. I replaced the bearings in it while ago but didn't get around to repairing the cracked epoxy on the field coil so got that over and done with today. Also pulled the spark plug wires to send them to Mike LaMar so that he can copy them. You 2182 owners stay tuned about Mike making wire for us. Removed the cap and rotor, I wonder how it even ran. They will be getting replaced. Pics of the PTO used JB weld on it tomorrow I'll hit it with the belt sander to smooth it up. :beerchug:
|
I redid the coil on the 1782 with Ultra black silicone and so far haven't had any problems. Just a question, is JB weld conductive?

Pony Express finally showed up with the new Spark Plug wires for my 2182's from Mike LaMar. Anyway here are pics. of them. If they work as good as they look I'll be a happy camper. Gotta love the Cub Yellow. :biggrin2: :beerchug:
