Wow Sam I've seen less dirt in a garden. Cleaned up nice though.
|
I like the way you give them "the treatment"!:biggrin2: How's the wiring on this one?

Got the engine out today. Rear main seal is leaking and it was packed full with grass. Did a compression test and also pressurized the cylinders with shop air to see if it has any indication of a bad head gasket. Looks like it's OK so it will get cleaned up and a new seal and put into the JD. Looks like the mice ate the pre filter and the drive shaft boot but the didn't get inside the blower housing, probably too much oil for them.
|
Holy sh!t Sam, looks like that's been in need of repair for a long time.
|
At least all the bolts come out easy, they have been well lubed, no rust to speak of. LOL. :biggrin2:
|
wow
That is the worst that I have seen.
I just knew that you couldn't resist getting this thing torn down. Can't wait to see the finished tractor. |
I don't think that was ever run with all that grass in there, squirrels are known to eat the plastic spouts on gas cans too.
|
😨 Holy Mackerel !!! Never seen one such a mess. Sure hope it was not run much in that condition.
|
Holy smoke Sam, that's a wad of crap up in there. Glad you are on the job.:beerchug:
|
gotta love it how some people take care of their stuff....cant even blow it down with compressed air or anything....people suck
|
Good work Sam, wow is it dirty, reminds me of the 169 engine I did!
|
Sorry if I missed this but where are you getting your new wire harness from. I somehow was able to keep my Cubs and want to put a new harness on the 1862.
|
Kohler Command=Timex.... Takes a licking and keeps on ticking!!

Man! that's dirty. Surprised it started/ran for you earlier being that dirty. You'll feel a lot better once that's cleaned up.
Sent you a PM. |

Most of the time I use new connectors unless they are in good condition to begin with.
|
Does anyone sell an improved wire harness that takes care of the issues a factory harness has.

EDIT; In the Cub Cadet parts source section. |
Weather was nice today, most of the snow has melted so I got the Kohler cleaned up with the pressure washer. Now I need to clean up the mess in the shop that it created and get to replacing the rear seal and putting it back together. :beerchug:
|
Looking good Sam:beerchug:

Got some shop time today. Washed the small parts and put the tins back on the CH18. Found some mouse damage to the kill wire and one of the spark plug wires but I can repair them. This probably explains why the seller said it didn't run the way it should. Now I'm just waiting for some Kohler parts to show up, one item is on back order, hope to get the CH18 finished next week and test run it. Then I can pull the CH22 out of MaMa's JD and swap it with the 18. I'll try to remember the camera tomorrow and get some pics. :beerchug:

Looks like I'll get my engine parts Friday as long as the Pony Express feeds the pony. Brown truck is due to show up today with my new Xtreme PTO. :beerchug:

I taped up the wires that the mice chewed and put a piece of fuel line over the spark plug wire that was chewed. If this engine was going to be run hard I would have replaced the Mag and the kill wire. I think it will be fine as it is. Also the Brown truck showed up with the new clutch. I'm very impressed. So here are some pics.

Pics of the Xtreme clutch, spacer, anti rotation stop and wire harness. This will be going on the fresh CH22. :beerchug:

Looking good! Extreme clutches look awesome.:beerchug:
|
Good looking unit there Sam. I'm going to have to try one!
|
Guys, I've used Xtreme clutch's on other Cubs, I have no financial interest with Xtreme, that said they make the best clutch I have ever seen and the pricing is so much lower than OEM I can see no reason not to use what they make plus they have replaceable bearings. I'll post the install and results on this project as it moves along. :beerchug:
|
Sam,
Your work looks great as always!!:beerchug: It's always fun to get stuff off the Big Brown Truck isn't it??!!:bigthink::biggrin2::biggrin2: |
I have to agree with Sam on the Xtreme PTO's. Sam turned me onto them last year, when mine in the 2372 (1872) took a chit. Great clutch, no adjustments needed, plug and play.:beerchug:
Eats the grass up, and spits it out, even after a damn big lunch...:biggrin2: |

Got leaky back together and test ran it, looks like it's happy at least for now. Someone replaced the rear seal and managed to nick the crank where the seal rides. :bash2:
Cleaned it up the best that I could, put the new seal in and crossed my fingers. So far it's OK but if it starts to leak I may have to see if I can get a repair sleeve. :beerchug: |
Good work Sam. Bench test is the best test.:beerchug:
