went out to do some digging with the brinly cultivator on my 100 and relized gas was pouring out the carb. so when i was limping it back to the shop i heard a bang and looked back and my cultivator was dragging on the concrete. so after some tinkering, i put a different float in the carb cuz the old one was filled with gas and the 3pt just came loose from the rock shaft. so the 100 is all good now.:beerchug:

ACecil 07-14-2010 12:25 AM

Glad you got everything straightened out, Nick! :beerchug:

I got my hood, front grill, and seat brackets mounted today. Also painted the seat pan that's waiting on my new cushion to get delivered. Got my headlights wired up and working. Man are they bright! So got a lot completed, now just waiting on the last few parts to arrive so I can finally get her done.

_DX3_ 07-14-2010 08:45 PM

Well I got the stator for the 1250 ordered, so while waiting on that, I figured I would see how far the battery would let me mow before it would crap out and kill the mower. I got about 4/5ths of my yard finished, just a bit over an acre, before the mower started spitting, cutting out and just acting bad in general. So I had to pull the deck and mule drive off and switch everything over to the 128. Bought a brand new PTO belt for the 44A deck today and the belt guide showed the same number for the 128 and the 1250. I went ahead and put the new belt on the 128 but it seems to be an inch or two too long, I have the adjustment set right, but the adjusting bolt on the mule drive is maxed out getting it to that point. It worked alright but could tell it needed to be tighter.
Going to start pulling the 1250 apart this week and get the motor out and ready for the replacement stator. That was about all I got done today, along with having the Central A/C fixed in the house. A whole story in itself. May have to sell the 1250 and tiller to help defer the repair costs. Still giving that some consideration tonight. Anyway, that's enough for one day.

Camaro- Congrats on your new "O". Looks like it's in pretty good shape. I'm on the hunt for one also now that the 1450 is almost done.

Great find, Denny! The Original will look great with the #1 cart. :beerchug:

lowlyfzlucky 07-16-2010 11:56 PM

I'm an idiot!

I never cease to amaze myself with how stupid I can be sometimes. So I finally got the 1450 back together to take it out on a test drive. So of course I'm having such a good time that it runs out of gas! Fortunately I had installed an inline fuel filter, which is completely trashed now. But it saved me from rebuilding the carb. The downside is that now it won't start. So tomorrow I'll remove and clean the gas tank, and install a new filter. :BlahBlah:

Diz Jr. 07-17-2010 11:28 PM

Painted the deck for the 169 this week. Decided to rebuild the P.T.O. while i was at it.
Took a ride down to Chris Westfall's (Cub Classics) and bought a P.T.O. rebuild kit, and a early style lever. I have been wanting to switch from the pto with the brake to the early style with just the wear button. Chris had everything i needed and i am back up and running. Thank again Chris

A few years ago I bought several Cubs from a fellow on the Eastern end of Kentucky, one of which was a pretty nice looking 70. When I got them home I started them all just to see what I really had.

This 70 seemed to run pretty good, so I mowed one round in my Brothers yard with it. The engine had a noise that I quickly determined to be the flywheel screen, and the head gasket was leaking (not bad but it was leaking), it also steered pretty hard. I took note of these things and parked it in the back of the shed to mess with another day.

Another day finally came, so I pulled it out of the shed, brought it home and went to work. I pulled the carb. off, took it apart and put it in the carb. cleaner to soak. I pulled the engine out, took off the shroud and flywheel cup and screen. I put new bolts in to hold the screen (all 4, three were missing and one was too short). I took the head off, decarboned the top of the engine, sanded the head flat and put the engine back together. Then pulled the steering column and rebuilt it, put it back in. While the engine was out I replaced the clutch fork bracket. Then put the engine back in and hooked up everything except the carb. The next day I blew out the carb. body cleaned and blew everything out and put it back together with a new kit. Put the carb. back on, greased all the zirks, fired it up and set the timing.

What a sweet running tractor, I really had fun cutting grass with it.

It still needs some clutch/drive shaft work, the only thing that looks wrong is, the teaser spring is broken. Hard to tell if it will need any real work until it's apart, it seems to work well, just a little jerky on take off. Being that this isn't my main grass cutter or anything (just something to play around on) I may not put a lot of work into the clutch/drive shaft, depends on how bad it looks when I get it apart.

All in all I'm pretty happy with it, it makes a nice little trimming machine. The cast iron end deck really cuts well too, I was a little surprised.

bignastyGS 07-18-2010 09:51 AM

Finally got caught up with most of the breakdowns we had lately and now my garage is missing a 102,149,108 and all I have left to work on is the 800. Finally got the rockshaft pin out and replaced in Dustin's 149 so it's back in mowing duty. Funny thing is I have been repairing all these Cubs...except my own. Seems funny to see only 3 tractors in the garage and to have gained more room...

Actually wasn't all today, but, As you can see the frame wasn't too bad dirty, just a little greasy up under the engine area.

I started cleaning up the metal panels with some medium cut polish and cleaner/wax. This stuff is great.

Here are the polishes I used. One of the other members here posted these products and liked how good they worked, so thought I would try them also.

I also worked on the engine cradle and the modification. Ground all the old paint and scum from the rails down to bare metal. Welded the cross member in. Added a few coats of primer and a few coats of Satin Black Paint. Yes I know it is supposed to be yellow, but, I have plenty of black and no yellow and no $$$ at the moment..LOL.. The black kind of blends in with the engine anyway. You can also see the cleaned up frame better. The engine is actually sitting in the tractor now, but I did not get a picture of that yet. I was going to put the drive shaft in, but noticed on both ends, some serious wear from the end bushings. So I'll be picking up some 5/8 stock tomorrow and making another drive shaft. I hope I can get the holes drilled straight. Still haven't figured out how to do that yet, unless I can make a holder/template out of some aluminum angle with pre-drilled holes for alignment. The new flex couplings are mounted. One to the flywheel and two to the hydro. I had read on here somewhere that putting the drive shaft in was easier to do this way. At any rate, that was all I could get accomplished today.

Engine cradle:

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...0/DSC00893.jpg
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...0/DSC00894.jpg

Can someone tell me if I have these bushings oriented correctly.
Starting on the left, the flywheel end, and then the ball goes into the hydro end followed by the second bushing in the picture? The shoulder on the second bushing should face to the rear of the tractor?

Matt G. 07-21-2010 07:48 PM

If those ball bushings came out of the outer race, they both need to be replaced.

Do you have a spare/junk driveshaft coupler? You can bolt/weld it to a piece of angle iron and make a hole drilling jig. That's what I did and it works great.

Matt G. 07-21-2010 08:35 PM

Here's what it's supposed to look like:

https://www.cubcadet.com/wcpics/CubC...uct_detail.jpg

Get a 941-3004 for the rear coupler and a 703-0204 for the front.

Didn't get to fire it up tonight. I found that the throttle cable doesn't make a good enough ground connection!! :bigthink: LOL......MAN......did that thing ever get hot quick!! :Duh:

After I tried the starter and it didn't move I remembered some posts about making sure you strap good ground cable from the engine to the frame. :bash2: Guess that's next on my list!!

Here's a Brinly cultivator I picked up last weekend. There were a couple clamps and wedges and one of the tines missing. I made some new clamps and wedges but I still need to make a new tine for the center. Does anyone know where to find new points for the tines? I don't think the ones on it are the correct ones. I believe the original ones were wider.

Matt G. 07-22-2010 12:23 AM

Those are original...there were several different styles.

ACecil 07-22-2010 09:02 AM

finally, after 3 months the old cub cadet 122 fired up! and runs like clockwork. just need to put my other voltage regulator back on and it should be good to go! then i can fab up my Haban sickle bar to it and really knock down the acres.

I got some of the new decals on today. What a huge difference! It's really coming together nicely. I put new ISO mounts in yesterday. Tomorrow I need to install a new pin in the front axle, and hopefully finish the engine covers.

Had to pull up some of our tomato plants. They were not doing well, in the extreme heat, we've been having. I hauled them to the woods.

Today Damien my son and myself worked on getting the lights working on the 149. We had to replace both headlights, both tail lights and the switch. I wish we could of found the 50 watt headlights but the 35 watt ones will have to do. Also used a toggle switch for the on off. I would loved to have the original style switch but I can't justify $40 for one.

Diz Jr. 07-25-2010 11:44 PM
