Took the head off the "O" to see how it looked after many years of not running (and many years of sitting out in the woods in the rain, according to the PO). I had sprayed the inside with "storage oil" a month or so ago, which probably didn't do anything other than make it look oily.

This operation went PERFECTLY until.... the bolt nearest the exhaust port, which promptly snapped off after having been baked on for years, then rusted into place. I drilled it out and retapped and we'll see if it holds the required torque. If not , I have 5/16-18 helicoils ready to go.

It's hard to tell by this lousy photo, but the inside looks good other than a massive head gasket leak. I'll surface it and reinstall today if I have time.

I noticed that the exhaust port was completely plugged with a mud dauber nest. Thankfully the valve was closed so the nest was not inside the cylinder itself.

This thing may actually run.

Good to see another one living again!

Took the day fixed all this and Danny and I pushed out the 1872 and staged it to go into the shop next. I just need to run 2 more wires on his 482 and line up all the sheet metal and its done. Then the 1872 and loader for the rest of the winter. Having the eng driven welder makes this job so easy, Im glad I have it. Someone tried to weld it with a small mig, that was a joke.

Vince, that's looking fantastic. Nice day to be working outside in the Carolinas at least, wasn't it?

I alternated between getting the "O" running and replacing the rear spring in my resto-rat. It was a good day!
