Had a good shop day today, weather was awesome for Jan 25th, 72 here.
Got the old CH18 ready to go into the JD. Pulled the drive shaft and the steering shaft. Removed the wiring harness. I had noticed that it steered much harder than it should, the CV joint in the steering shaft was almost rusted solid, worst one I've ever seen, I can fix it, I have enough salvaged parts from a prior organ donor. Most of the electrical connections were badly corroded as I expected. I'll make my own harness. All in all I'm very happy with the condition. Should make a nice grass killer. :beerchug: On another note a local guy picked up the snow blower that I had advertised for a friend. :beerchug: Looks like the weather is going to be crappy for a while so probably no more progress for a while. :bash2: |
Wow I was reading down over this thread. Perry equipment is only minutes from my house. You got that from my back yard, and I got my 1641 in Virginia last weekend. I went to pick it up though. I borrowed my father in laws trailer and in Maryland off halfway blvd one tire threw the valve stem and went flat getting off 81 to find food. I replaced it with the spare which also had a broken valve stem. That was a fun afternoon in the rain.
There's an 1864 on Craigslist in great falls va, near Reston for $1100. Looks like it's in good shape. Too rich for my blood though. |

Today the wife's JD donated it's CH22 to the 1864 project. The Ch22 is out and the CH18 is back in. Just a few little things to finish up and the JD will be done then I can get serious on the 1864/2264. :beerchug:
|
Looking good Sam!:beerchug:
You sure that CH18 will move that Deere with a bed full of sh!+?:bigthink::biggrin2: sorner, I just looked at the 1864 in great falls, looks like he upped it to $1250! |
[QUOTE=Shrewcub;408206]Looking good Sam!:beerchug:
You sure that CH18 will move that Deere with a bed full of sh!+?:bigthink::biggrin2: QUOTE] The Mag 12 that was in the JD before was enough power so the CH18 should do the job. The JD doesn't haul Chit, just mulch. :biggrin2: The 1864 gets one more trip to the pressure washer then it's reassemble time. :beerchug: |
Sam, you have that nice lift...you suck!!!
Keep up the good work! |

John, the hanging sign is from my racing days and trust me it has nothing to do with OSHA. It pertained to the fact that I and a few friends raced PU trucks and used to whip the butts of the sporty car guys. Granted the trucks were full tube frame race cars but our stuff was under $20,000 compared to $200,000+ for the sporty car kids. Quote from a Ferrari guy " Da Mustsa Be Somting Wrong With The Da F-40, I'm a Goin Down The Back Straight and I Got Passed By a F--Kin Pickup" yep sucks to be you. :biggrin2: |

Got the JD's transplant finished today. Successful mission. Cleaned and reassembled the drive shaft and steering shaft. The CH22 is mounted to the motor plate and just about ready to drop into the Cub. So far everything is going as planned. If it's warm tomorrow I hope to get the Cub washed. It still has some crud on the frame under where the motor plate sits that I couldn't get at before.:beerchug:
|
Is that crud from the driveshaft boot leaking? Mine had that crud too when I took the engine out. And inside the shroud of the engine there was thick greasy crud that I had to clean up. The seals seem fine, I don't think it was engine oil.
|
This one had a leaking seal on the flywheel end and it oiled the whole tractor. Only good thing is all the bolts come out easy after you find them. :biggrin2:
|
Pig Pen is all nice and clean. Engine is about ready to drop into the frame. Gotta do a little paint work on the heat shield first. New PTO is on. I'll try and get off my lazy butt and get some pics tomorrow. :beerchug:

Steering column is back in, cut a hole in the dash for a voltmeter and stuck it in the hole. Installed the starter relay that was on the tractor when I bought it. Next on the list is to make a wiring harness then drop the engine in. Here are some pics. :beerchug:
|
Looking good Sam, should be a grass killing machine.
|
Looking good. How come the voltmeter? Is it a "cool factor" or was the electrical system problematic? You'd think with all those warning lights in the dash there would be an idiot light.:bigthink:
|
:beerchug: Looking good Sam. :beerchug:

The Cyclops tractors have a voltage light that rarely works. With a voltmeter you know for sure what is going on. To your question about the condition of the electric system on this tractor, just about every connector was melted from corrosion causing poor contact. I'm redoing the complete system. |
Got a good start on the electrical system for the 2264 today. Hope to have all the stuff behind the engine finished tomorrow so I can plop the engine in place. Salvaged a lot of the factory wiring and repurposed it. Weather was awesome, if I was smart I would have been out ridding the bike instead of playing with a tractor. Oh well I want to get it finished. :beerchug:
|
If you were smart you would have moved further south, hehehe just kidding....
|
Sounds like you are moving right along!! Hoping for some pix before too long!

Sorry I forgot to take pics today. The CH22 is in the Cub. Most of the wiring is done. New fuel in is in place. Drive shaft is in. Tomorrow I hope to finish the fuel system, new tank bushings, reinstall the shut valves, filter. Makeup the plug to connect the wiring to the engine. Battery cables etc. Then give it the smoke test. :beerchug: |

Smoke test was successful, everything works as it should. Gotta go and pickup some tranny fluid now. :beerchug:

Tranny oil and filter changed, stuff that was in it was NASTY! Probably should have popped the rear cover off but I figure I'll let that go till I put the rear end braces on. The starter relay took a crap so I just went with the factory setup. It works fine without it. Next on the list is to tidy up some wiring and put some split sleeve on it and build some sort of battery hold down. Battery that came in the tractor is almost new but it's the wrong size. Then it's on to putting the fenders and hood on with the new grill. Once it's finished I'll run it for a season before getting into making it pretty. :beerchug:
|
Looks to be coming along nicely!
