Roland, do you have a schematic for a 2182? What powers the solenoid?

What's the general opinion on the 21 HP 3 cylinder gas Kubota vs. a 20 or 22 HP Kohler Command?
|
I would take a water cooled Kubota over any air cooled Kohler. Their engines run very smooth and will probably last 2 times longer. I don't know why but their parts are cheaper too. A complete new OEM carb for this engine is $107. I don't know for sure but this engine may like to suck gas a little more then others. I will find that out if I ever get mine together.:biggrin2:

Lasting 2 times longer isn't a big issue for me, I don't put a lot of hours on any of the tractors, and a well maintained Kohler lasting 1500 hours is enough for me. A smooth, quiet, powerful engine would be of interest though. I'll just have to hear one run at some point, I've never been around one.

Got a couple things done on the 2182 today. Removed the muffler and the shielding around it, cleaned it up and gave it a quick paint job with some VHT header paint. I was pleasantly surprised that all of the bolts came out without breaking off. Guess the Power Blaster stuff works. The header paint is only a temporary measure, plan to have it ceramic coated at some point in the future. Just waiting for parts now to finish it up. With a little luck I’ll get to try it out next week. Then I plan on getting into the 2284 and give it a good going over before I put it up for sale.

Looking good, Sam! Thanks for the update.

PB Blaster is great stuff, I've had really good luck with it as long as I give it time to work.
Please take a video when you get it running, I'd really like to hear the engine run. |

It's very quiet. Sounds awesome with the muffler off it. Just had to check that while I had the muffler off :biggrin2: |
No wonder it sounds quiet now, you put your ear up to it with the muffler off first!
I think my next Cub will be a diesel, but I'm interested in that engine, if it was noticably quieter than the Kohler air cooled engines it might be worth a look. It looks from the pics like there aren't front hydraulic outlets on the 2182. My 2084 didn't have them either, I had to add them. It surprises me that they didn't make them standard on the supers. |
The diesels are also quite a bit quieter than the air-cooled gas engines, but I'd say hearing protection is still a good idea.
