Pick a model number and go to Cub Cadet's web site, or to partstree.com and look up the parts. If you want to get a hold of the sponsors at the top of the page and get a used one that would be better. You don't want to buy a brand new one and cut it up. Too many $$$. Used ones are fine. If you ask them for a shaft out of a 2000 series, they will know what you want. :beerchug:

Great site Jonathon! I've been watching 2000 series driveshafts on ebay. Cheapest I've found is about $90. I'm gonna check the sponsors pages too. Great idea! I personally am probably go with a 2082 CV shaft for my 2072. May even try to find a beat up one cuz I don't have the best feeling about my pump and my M20s rings are shot (50 psi on the compression test, starts and runs fine with some smoke! :confused2.gif") And then I don't have to bug Sam for the adapter. :beerchug:

It doesn't matter what 2000 or 3000 series tractor the shaft is from. They are all too long and will need to be cut to the proper length. The adapters are NLA from Cub so I have them made at a local machine shop. The Kubota engine adapter is also NLA same deal gotta make it. Who ever you buy the shaft from make sure you get the complete shaft and the fan.

Sam could you tell us the diameter and number of splines on the pump shaft ? And is the shaft that sticks out the back of the pump for the rear p.t.o. the same size ? Thanks Bruce S. :bigthink:

Sam, if you don't have the measurements or have one apart I will be pulling the shaft from my 2072 on Thursday morning and can measure it then.

I just did one of Sam's conversions tonight. Pretty easy job and the shaft feels good and tight.

Bruce, they are different. The input is a 5/8 shaft with 9 splines and the rear is 3/4 with 11 splines. Surplus Center had some good deals on the front 9 spline coupler.

As Todd said the pump input is 5/8" 9 spline. I buy the splined part of the adapter from Hub City. Just that part of it cost's me about $40.00 then I have to have it shortened .350" and the flange made and welded together.

Thanks Sam . I need to do some preventive maintenance on my 1872 before tillering season next spring .I thought as long as I have it tore down I would make sure the rear PTO was in good shape . Thanks Bruce S. :beerchug:
