Have a question about these transmissions that maybe someone who's had their share of them apart can tell me. I had a rough growling noise only during travel, any gear forward or reverse. Pretty loud and constant. I disassembled the entire rear end and found a lot of metal shavings as seen in the last pic as well as a part of what looked to be a bearing cage, I lost it unfortunately. Problem is that I was expecting to find a bearing or something that was bad but nothing. Carrier bearings, pinion bearing, input to gear reduction bearing, all fine. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

Slowly but surely getting the 800 done. I think I'm finally getting better at body work and paint. Sure trying anyway, it's all about patience and taking the time that's for sure. Got paint laid down and some assembly so far. Rebuilt motor .020" over, replaced broken governor, having fun with this one

Looking really good Mike!!

Is that a sticker on the dash panel? Or did you find an NOS panel? If it's a sticker, could you post a close up pic? I'm getting ready to paint a QL and trying to decide if I want to use the sticker, or refurbish the original like Adam did on his red 1X9.

Hey, I missed your post a long time ago about the trans. Did you decide what to do, or find what was causing the noise? If not, post some pics of the bearings.

I took Adams idea although it didn't come out as nice. I masked all the edges as best I could, cut it with a razor blade, used gloss black. I cut out the labels of a 127 decal I had and put them on, I'm ok with it.

As far as the trans I honestly found nothing other than very small pieces of a bearing cage and a lot of small shavings. Went through every piece, cleaned it all out with diesel, and did a pattern and checked backlash, seals and gaskets, that's it. I actually threw it in before I rebuilt the motor and paint and thought it would be the same, and to my surprise it is now quiet as a mouse. Ive talked with other guys with the same noise but they had never been inside theirs. Stand by for a pic of the dash and thanks for the kind words

I'm a fan of trying to save the dash tin, mines a little bent but came out ok for what I did. I could have done better on the paint lines, it was a pain taping all them off but i did it the best i could. I'm not knocking anyone using the full decals but I used what I could from the 127 one I had hanging around that I never used.

Wow, that thing is looking good Alvy! Nice job on the dash too. I'm not a big fan of the dash decal either. The 800 is on my list to get too, so maybe one will show up someday here in Georgia.
