WOW !!!! Great job man !! I ve got the very same tractor I plan On doing the same thing to.. I just got new bearings in my mower deck and everything is running great !!! Now its time to tear it apart !! Love this Thread !!!!

Well, it has been a while since I've posted an update, so here goes. The major components have all been pulled apart and inspected. I'm waiting on some gaskets to get the rear axle back together. Most of my time recently has been spent cleaning and painting small parts. Today I started reassembly. It isn't much to look at yet, but at least I'm going in the right direction now! More to follow.

One of the changes I'm making during the resto is to delete the original glow plug indicator and upgrade to a key switched solenoid for the glow plug circuit. I wanted to keep the look of the original indicator, but modify it with a low amperage draw LED lamp as an indicator when the solenoid is energized. Here's my solution. Picture #1 show a NOS glow plug indicator and a single LED marker lamp used on modern tractor trailer trucks. Picture #2 shows the original indicator with the resistor removed. Picture #3 is of the LED positioned in the frame of the original indicator housing and bedded with RTV silicone to hold it in place. The LED lamp only needed a bit of reducing it's upper diameter to allow it to slide into the housing. Picture #4 is of the lamp lit, nice and bright so it can even be seen in direct sunlight. The LED is also available in red, but I chose the yellow as red lights make me think of a warning lamp. This is a great alternative and only draws about 1/5 amp when lit.

Are you putting in the new NGK glow plugs also?

Yep, three new NGK glow plugs, a dedicated wiring harness and a switch controlled solenoid. I also will be using the gear reduction type starter and a 420 CCA battery. From what I've read here on the forum, that's the ticket to making these little guys start easily.

I had a good day in the shop today and made more progress on the 782D. The front and rear axles have been installed. The rear got all new seals and gaskets. The bearings were spotless even though the HyGard oil was milky when drained. Slowly hanging parts back on and getting more room in the shop as a result. It sure seems nice to be able to roll it around on brand new tires. As soon as I sort out the wiring harness and get the back side of the dash done, I'll set the engine back in. I hope to see smoke before the snow flies!
