Agree entirely on all. I came back after a hiatus from the forum and there's a ton of people missing that posted regularly and often. I've wondered why. I've also had some postings deleted without an explanation. I've never had that happen on other forums without a warning or note from a mod. I've never had that happen in my 1000+ earlier postings here. One of the posts was in the Craigslist forum, where indeed I should not have posted a reply, but my note was just light hearted and not in any way offensive. Once it was deleted, I reviewed the rules and found it was appropriately deleted.... but nearby was this post : http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=50724 That was not deleted. I'm not drawing any conclusions but I can tell you that this place has changed a lot, and the participation is MUCH lower that it has been in the past. Respectfully John |

On a side note, I just caught up on this thread. Did I miss somewhere that John isn't coming back for one reason or another? I can be dense from time to time :bash2: |

This is the best explanation that I've read so far. We are all peers here and don't deserve to be belittled or chastised. I've never questioned his knowledge. All about the delivery. And as a Moderator, you should set an example, as hard as it may be. If you don't like a question be asked 20 times, hit the "back" button as others have stated and move on. And for those who ask how old everyone is, I'm 42. Worked in Healthcare my whole life, and majority of that in the ER. I've seen and dealt with a ton of different personalities and such. Would I have liked to go and tell someone they were "stupid" for asking a question for the 50th time and to take a hike and pound sand? Well, h3ll yes. But I'm a better person, realize its not worth it, and rose above the status quo. I'm not whining or a princess. You, as a Mod, need to act like an adult and leave your baggage at the door. All the guys that used to post when I joined have mostly left or migrated to other social media. I pretty much lost all interest in Cubs and sold all six of my diesels and got back into Farmalls. Got tired of getting on here daily, which I used to do, and seeing the bashing and belitting, especially of newer or younger members. Not the sitting around and shooting the crap I used to see when I joined (also a big reason why I joined). I'll buy a Cub again someday, but for now lurk..... And like Charles, I've been members of other forums for years, and I have to agree this is the first time I've ever seen a Mod treat people like this, bait them into situations, then get the last word in and Lock the thread. I realize Moderators have a tough job, but they should not instigate issues like what was happening. I wasn't going to say anything, but I have a hard time sitting back and seeing others called "Children" and "Princesses" for speaking their mind/opinion, especially when they have very valid points. My 2 cents worth....... |
I think Jon is an acquired taste. New members, like I once was, have a hard time dealing with his approach. I know that I did. But once I figured him out and came to the understanding that not only is he extremely knowledgeable, he is also very straightforward about his replies to questions. I've been here for a couple of years now and I check in and read almost everything related to GTs everyday and 2 or 3 times a day. I'm working on a 149 and a lot of times other models have similar issues that are or can be related. I always pay close attention to what Jon has to say. Despite not being tactful all the time, his information is usually very very helpful. Take what he says and use it. Ignore some of the less tactful comments. He is only as human as the rest of us and has good and bad days and times in life the same as all of us. Just because you might get a bit offended by his style as I originally was, doesn't mean his advice was not good. I don't know for a fact what might be going on in Jon's life right now and I doubt if too many of us really truly do.
I for one would like to see him back sharing the wealth of knowledge that he has and gives to us all. |
We are all human and we all have rough spots in our lives. Having a problem in life does not excuse how you treat others. It's called maturity. This was not a one time thing. Jon's post have been the same for years and years. The job of a moderator is to make new comers feel good about being a member not offending them so they leave. Members have left over this I know this for a fact. The simple fact is that belittling and berating people is not right period. It is called bullying and some can handle it better than others. Those of you that said he is knowledgeable and helpful but... I'm sorry there is no but. You may be fine with the way he treated others or yourself but that does not make it right. I have been in business for 35 years. 30 years treating patients and 5 owning a hardware store. If every time a customer or employee came into the store and ask a dumb or repetitive question I snapped at them I would be the only worker and have no customers. The biggest problem for me is that he is a moderator an authority or representative of the forum talking down to members. If he was just another member than he is not speaking as the forum only for himself. Big difference.

A while back Jon got all over a member whose tractor had caught fire and burned down his garage or building. Jon has responded to my posts in a posative way, but he was terrible to other members. When he posted the terrible post about the tractor not causing the fire and really belittling the member, I replied that this forum would be better off if Jon left and never came back. I still feel that way but I wish Jon the best and hopes he learns from this.
Jon has a wealth of knowledge and it will be missed. Bob |
Well gang here’s the deal, Jon as many have mentioned is one of the most knowledgeable people on OCC. His one short coming is that he seems to need to have things his way or get the last word and will get into an argument over things that are better left alone.
I know that Roland has talked to him in the past about cooling it and so have I. One of the reasons Roland has any moderators is so that he doesn’t have to do all of the little crappy odds and ends, He does have a real job to deal with also. We are supposed to make life a little easier for him. When a Mod is the cause of an endless compliant stream to your PM box it gets old, at that point why have that person as a Mod? I see plenty of threads that I just ignore because the OP is just not getting it or is dead set to do it the hard way. Not my tractor and not my problem. I used to have to get into every thread and try to solve every problem. I wised up, now I sit back and let the other members have at it. Maybe things will change for the better, I certainly hope so. I know Jon is still checking in because I see his name pop up. I’ll toss out one little pearl of wisdom that was bestowed on me by a senior instructor back in the days when I used to be a High Performance Driving Instructor and what he said was “Just because you can do it doesn’t mean that the student can do it”. Sometime we expect more from someone than the person has the ability or knowledge to perform. We if you use that same thought, just because I know how to fix something does not mean that everyone else does or can. Also just because I have a reasonably well stocked tool box doesn’t mean that the casual Cub owner does. I guess what I’m getting at is that we cannot force our ways onto everyone in this forum. One other thing that needs to be considered is that people come and people go in this or any hobby. You have to look at like a business if you piss off they customers the go away and don’t come back plus they let others know if they enjoyed it here or not. It’s easy to develop a bad reputation, much harder to build a good one. I hope Jon reads this thread and reconsiders his actions. Jon if what I’ve said pisses you off, sorry it’s not meant to be a slam, meant to be constructive. :beerchug: |

All I’ve seen you post about is gloating about Fords and NOS cub parts. This thread turned into you people who don’t like J and want to cry about it. |

I was wondering when you will shim in Sam. I'm happy you did it just to prevent those who are sitting on the edge of their seat, ready to "spit" at each others face...:biggrin2: Oups...I just read Terry post after I post mine.... Sorry Terry :Unknown:
I ad to admit few intervention make senses and Roland must feel pretty tired of dealing with this s... founded or not, been a moderator is not for everyone, no matter of what wood you are made. Your not alone who tell him in PM to "Let it go" Sam, I even ask him one time if he was suicidal! I really feel bad for him as we see the door closing behind a little more each day. If he come to take a look like you said I will wish him a Merry Christmas the way I think he may do. :beerchug: :biggrin2: |
Been missing J-Mech
Well said by both drcjv and Sam Mac. As a new member I experienced J_Mech's more than rough edges on my first post. I think this is a great forum with a wealth of knowledge in its members. This discussion will only make this a forum better.
