Yup. More like 50 years in this case.

Looks like you're having fun Steve. If it was all done up and for sale you probably wouldn't have bought it, right? The repairs and the sense of completion are the fun part. A new shaft from Jeff and it will be good for another 40+ years!

Hard to get more than 50 yrs out of a garden tractor! I tell you , quality is going downhill

So, I can easily obtain a replacement shaft for this. But another problem I have is the fan is completely devoured, I guess from the wobble of the shaft, and the limited clearance in the fan shroud? I'll need to replace that fan too.
I'm thinking about doing something different, like a cyclops CV style shaft upgrade. Has this ever been done? I would probably have to have it modified to fit, I already have a fan for one. I would just need to locate a shaft, and probably remove the fan shroud. |
I’ve got several good shafts with fans. Also have a shaft from an 1861 should you want to go that route, I’d stick with the original setup.

Probably is best, as others have said and I tend to agree... that original setup has lasted a long time.

JB Weld it!!! Let us know how long it lasts!! lol

I got the hitch on it tonight. Now I just need to get the driveline in order and the ag tires on the back, and I’m ready for spring.

Here's the driveshaft... I think the shaft coupler for the hydro end is usable and doesn't need replaced. The hole is still good.
