I need one for my 124...how'd you do it ? |
Matt, I hope your going to post some pictures of your tractors working before going back to school? By the way, how's that loader working out you finished up before going back to school? I am sure your father enjoys using it in the snow?? :biggrin2.gif:
Nice custom cap eastonct....original. At least your not leaving your deck go until summer when the grass is 6 inches tall - nice to see it getting fixed up in the off season  |
The loader hasn't moved...all of the snow just melted yesterday. I actually drove two of my tractors for the first time since being home yesterday; I moved the 782 out of the garage so I could put the 1872 in front of it to attach the 364 2-stage snowblower I bought a couple days ago. The 1872 had been sitting since August, and the starter kept sticking. I had a heck of a time starting it. I guess I have to fix that next week, too:angry:
I'll put up some pics of the 1872 with snowblower and Tru-Powers when I get it done. |
Well I started to paint the 128 and work on the engine and start up the 1812 and 123 they always start right up! The 128 should be done soon.:Cub6:

I picked up some 8.50 carlisle ags on rims(jd's) for a good deal off craigslist today and started making room for the 147 coming home on wednesday:biggrin2.gif:
|
Sminkey, you da man! You're getting quite the collection this year! :beer2:
|
I am like Sminkey, I started cleaning up my shop and getting rid of junk to make room for a couple of new additions. I just made a deal to purchase a 109 and a 129 from Masmith. I'll pick up the 129 next week and the 109 in Feb. Also I have the 169 that will be here sometime soon. So all in all I will have a 128, 109, 129, and a 169. Now to find the elusive 149 sometime this year and finish up my 1x9 series collection.

The previous owner of my CCC 682 installed a drain and vent hole in the aluminum rear end. I didn't realize it was there until I went to drain and refill the rear. I think it worked like a champ, a full 7 pints went back in. Anyone see any drawbacks to this other than I cannot use a standard hitch?
|
I like that idea. My super has a drain under the filter but It is never going to move again. Steel plug in an aluminum housing installed by a ham fisted gorilla years ago. I couldn't budge it with a 1/2" breaker bar and a 3/8" adapter. I was worried about taking the threads with it so I gave up and just remove the rear cover. The cover drain is a great Idea. I THINK that guy at "extreme motor works" makes a cover with drains in it. I have a frame mounted hitch plate so that isn't even a factor for me.
|
Weave,
I have an aluminum housing in the garage that I think has a lower mounted drain plug in the rear plate? I never paid that much attention to it, as I have not had a use for the housing at this point. I'm going to take a look at it in the morning to make sure that I am not completely crazy (I do admit to partially). Will try to remember to post pics. |
I get to spend a whole week in the garage with the Cubs! Sounded like fun at first, but looks like I have a lot of work to do before I actually get some "real" time wrenching.
Sorted through a massive amount of loose parts today. Just trying to get better organized before Spring is upon us. Kind of a boring/monotonous chore, but it was fun to find some parts that I forgot that I had. However, it was mostly just a bunch of nuts/bolts and engine parts. Looking forward to Friday when I have some extra hands coming over to help with the purge of wayward Cub parts! Best find of the day was the new throttle linkage for the M18 on the 782. Once I stumbled across it, I promptly installed it on Reddison! |
First pic of 2011 for me! Hauled some limbs, then hauled Jenn, as she wanted to get out for some fresh air. How's this, Duke?

Looks good Allen.. I took the 682 out today to clean off the driveway, was great getting outside for the first time in the last week and a half! Going to catch heck for it but it was much needed! Forgivness over permission :biggrin2.gif: |
Great pic Allen, I always look forward to see you on your 100 :beer2:
I bet Jen enjoyed her ride :biggrin2.gif: Hows her recovery coming? Jeff (teet) |
i installed the new K241AS Kohler into my 122. it felt as though it had very little compression. i winged it over with the key to see if she would fire....no spark. i dug into it a bit deeper. found the points were stuck. so, i installed the points off of the K301AS i took out of the unit. we got spark! but...still wouldn't start. and the compression was still a big issue. we took off the head and low and behold. stuck exhaust valve. we got it moving and working again. while we were under the head, we took some sanding stones and smoothed out the deck of the engine as much as possible. as well as the head. cleaned all the carbon off the head. there was a little scoring on the cylinder walls but non were deep. we installed a new head gasket, put the 12hp tank cradle and tank on, winged it over again and got a pop and it started and died within a second. carb was messed up. so, i took the carburetor off of the K301AS and installed it on the K241AS. well, it fired right up and purrs like a KITTEN! had it running for a while then something in the clutch flew apart......:bash2::bash2: oh well. i got a few spare clutches. also split the tractor to fix the seal in the creeper gear since it would drool some HyTran. thats all fixed now. gonna connect the tractor back together sometime within the next week! can't wait to take it out for a spin with the new heart!
also, Last week i picked up a really cool IH Cab. its for a wide frame but i installed it on my 102 with custom mounts. i also put two flood lights on the front and installed the gumball light to the back. with custom switches. today i picked up a cub cadet weight box for $20! gonna install that as well as a snow blade on the 102 and hopefully a creeper and ill be set to go! |
Thanks Jay & Jeff! :beerchug:
Jay: The snow has been gone...LOL. Hopefully, we'll get some more. :biggrin2.gif: Jeff: Jenn is recovering nicely. She can put some weight on her toes, but not her whole foot. She still has a long way to go. We appreciate you asking! |

It's always good to be home Allen, lookin good on the 100 as always. Glad to hear your wife is feeling better. I saw you over on FB I don't get on there very often so I didn't know how to send you a message back but I confirmed you as a friend. Thanks for finding me on there. There are a couple of cub groups on there next time I'm on I'll send them to you.

Thanks guys! :beerchug:
Junior: Thanks for your kind words about Jenn! Sounds good on FB! |
I worked on the 1872/364 snowblower combination today. I think I have enough of the mounting brackets worked out that I can turn it on and make sure it works before I completely finish everything. I took the starter off and wanted to rebuild it, only to discover that it was a fairly new replacement starter, which to my surprise and disappointment, is NOT rebuildable, unlike the older replacement and original starters. The bendix is retained by a crimped sleeve instead of a nut, so it can't be removed to clean and lube the bendix. It also has a very exposed slip clutch that probably keeps the gear from getting destroyed. There is no way to relube the bendix worm without getting stuff on the slip clutch, so now it slips too easily, and the starter doesn't want to engage half the time. I guess I'll have to pull if off again and try a different starter if I can't get the lube worn off of the slip clutch.

Don't build like they use to!! That's what I love about these old cubs Matt, they're totally rebuildable.
I finally got the steering wheel off of the 124 tonight:beerchug:. After 2 weeks of soaking it in PB and I made 2 different wood blocks like Matt G.'s, but the woods I used just weren't hard enough and I snapped them. Don't think any wood would have worked on this one, in the pic you'll see a split bearing tool I picked up at Napa for $40. Kinda pricey but it worked great, only thing I don't like about it is only 2 threaded holes for bolts, be nice to have 3 pressure points. But man did it go "bang" when it let loose tonight, scared the crap out of me:biggrin2.gif:. Also worked on the new 147, took off tank and rinsed it out, changed out sediment bowl and will rebuild carb later tonight. Hope to get it running in the next couple days. |
I had he same problem on my 1282. I soaked it for a week, nothing. Had my son and 4 of his friends pull while I beat on it....still nothing! I bought a puller from my Snap-On dealer (90 Bucks) :bash2: and it came right off. But like yours, it sounded like a gunshot when it popped!! I coated the shaft with Never-Seize before I put the steering wheel back on.

Got some seat time today! Did some hauling for Jenn. Enjoyed it, as always!

Looking good ACecil
Must be warmer at your house than it is here :biggrin2.gif: |
Got a little further with the 364/1872 today. My mounting brackets are still not rigid enough; hopefully I'll be able to fix that tomorrow. I was at least able to move it outside and try it out. The starts slips at first but eventually grabs and starts the tractor. Maybe it'll be ok. I can't believe how quiet the snowblower is...it's nearly silent and can't be heard over the tractor. Much quieter than my QA-36A. I had both the 782 and 1872 outside warming up at once, as the 782 was in the way of getting the 1872 out. 2 M18s running at the same time sounds cool:biggrin2.gif: I took some video that I'll eventually put on my website. I think the muffler in my 782 is bad, as I couldn't hear the 1872 running when both were side by side. The lift links are too short, so I need to make longer ones so the snowblower actually touches the ground. That and putting the Tru-Powers on the rear and it'll finally be ready for snow, 6 weeks too late.
|
Matt. Really curious to see how the blower turns out and how far it throws snow. I have a 2 stage off a 782 which is close to the same thing I think? I'm gunna end up putting that on my 1650 for next winter
|
Might get some more seat time, in the snow tomorrow! :beerchug:
