fixed the leaking carb but still only runs 2-3 seconds...
|
Do you know if you are getting gas into the carb? Have you changed the fuel filter? How old is the gas? Have you disassembled the carb and cleaned it inside and did you get every little passage and orifice clean?
No I'm only gonna say this one time. If you do not know what you are doing with a carb you can screw it up. If you keep trying to run the engine on starting fluid you will blow it up and then you will get to buy a new engine. Do you have the service manual for your engine if not go to the Kohler web site and down load it, it tells you how to fix your engine. |
thanks sam, i'll answer each below in red:

Because I tried a new ignition module (aka mag) i took off the old one but realized after the fact that this was not the issue. Old one worked just fine. I set the gap best I could but wonder if it is correct. In the kohler service manual located here: http://www.kohlerengines.com/onlinec..._20_690_01.pdf
i don't see anything on page 36 where it talks about the module about what the gap should be. It seems like since that system is constantly firing an electromagnetic current if not just right that it could cause the engine to start briefly (so far only with starter fluid) and then stop running after 2-3 seconds. This assuming that the carb is clean since is did my best to clean it. Let me ask you this as well. The carb solenoid must be working since the engine runs for at least a brief period right? Thanks eric |
No. It is running off starting fluid.
Eric, I think I can say we really want to help, but I believe you may be in over your head. |
ok, thanks. I'll stop posting questions and seek help.
Thanks for all your help, really appreciate it. |
DONE and RUNNING!
Turns out it was the carburetor solenoid. The guy who fixed it said they often overheat and go bad. It was a manufacturing defect because of the close proximity of the muffler causing it to overheat. The replacement kits that you buy include a heat shield for that area. Makes sense. Too bad as this would have been the piece of the puzzle that I would have gone to next to replace. Thanks for everything! I learned a lot!
:Thanks: |
Glad to hear that you got it going!:beerchug:
