Makes me miss mine
|
well, I got a few good punches in on the ol' girl tonight. We installed the engine, did some detail painting and finished up a lot of loose ends like the throttle cable, wiring and choke. After getting everything in place, there was only one thing to do-- run it!
I took a quick spin around the yard but it was getting dark so, I'll have to get some photos tomorrow. I need to repaint the hood. I can't blame the paint, but a big ol' fly landed in the paint while wet. And, not being content to leave only footsie prints, he decided to flip over on his back and make paint angels! :Explode: I tried to cover the evidence by laying a thick coat on the top of the hood, where the fly decided to stop flying and start walking. Didn't help, and it started to wrinkle a day or two later. So, it'll get sanded off and we'll start over. Oh well. I get the fenders and the hood done, and she should be ready for the next show! Pics to follow. |
Sounds like your getting there, looking forward to pictures.
"Flies"? Only flies we got this time of year are white ones, and their cold:biggrin2: |

Got some pics tonight.
I took the "O" out for a little spin and everything seems to be working like it should. There are a few things that I'll clean up once I get it all together. I did have a small fuel leak at the sediment bowl. Not thinking, I installed it before checking for leaks! :Duh: It definitely looks different from when I started and I HOPE that is a good thing. I bit the bullet and re-painted the hood. One thing I can say about that Majic paint is that it takes a LONG time to dry properly. I really do think that it's either that old synthetic enamel, or something very close to it. It's been about a week and trying to sand that stuff just balls it up on the paper. It was still smearing! There was definitely some :Swear: and :Mad1: goin' on! I finally took my flapper/grinder wheel and chewed it all off! It even balled up on the flapper wheel. If I had a couple of months to allow it to dry in the sun properly, it probably would have sanded okay. But, the show must go on (in January). :biggrin2: Anywho, the hood is painted and drying. It's not perfect, but neither is its owner. You can see the difference in color between the Majic CC Yellow and the "other stuff" that I had on hand to finish the fuel tank. Hope ya like the pix. http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/...psdbf02572.jpg http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1142e303.jpg http://i1282.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0104bd68.jpg |

Man that looks god for a rattle can paint job. What is the number Majic that you used? :beerchug:

Andy it looks Great man. Did you use the majic school bus yellow? That's what I did the 73 with. I got 3 cans left if you ran out and need to touch up. And yeah, its exactly what happened to me a few days later with love bugs in my hood, and yeah, had to use a flap disk to get it off because of it balling up, very ironic, must be a Florida thing! You got plans for decals or not yet? I'm going to get the maple hunter kit for the 73 but haven't remembered yet. Great job buddy.
PS did you get stainless hardware?? |
