The 100 is coming along nicely mharrison!! Adrian, you're doing some fine paint work there:biggrin2: Good stuff MrGitrdone41! I got the pto off the 124's engine, also pulled bearing, collar and flywheel pulley:bigeyes:. As you can see the pulley is pretty toasted, will be sourcing a new one:Sad: But it's nice to get all that stuff off finally! Also took the thrower and front end off the 71 to fix loose flywheel pulley, and Lew was right:bigeyes:. The crankshaft key was toast, so I'm in the middle of replacing that and threadlock the set screws, have to get ready for the snow, calling for 8-12" here tomorrow night into monday morn:biggrin2: |
I noticed that your S/G bracket mounting on the 124 is in a different hole, should be mounted to the one above it.That is defiantly not the same motor that it came with when new.Does that motor have a deep sump oil pan?
Nice looking deck Adrian. I like when a cub is a turn key operation... |
just bought another Haban Sickle bar. this ones a Haban 402E instead of the 402D. complete. gonna mount it to the 102.....or buy a wideframe. :beerchug: i want a 149 i decided today. haha

Awesome vid, Jude!
|
Looks like frosty the snow man ..nice vid.
The oil pan does not have a flat bottom on it .Should be a deep sump oil pan on it,I hear you are suppose to get 30"... Have fun! |
Thanks Allen and Lew:beerchug:
Lew, it does have a large portion of the oil pan the sticks down from the rest of it, definitely not flat. Is this a good thing?? |
Yes It is a good thing you have an oil pan under your motor.hehehehe

I have a question,is it normal for thr PTO pulley to have two sets of set screws, one on top of the other? When i pulled the one off my 123 it had that, and i didnt know it. Needless to say i wasted a hour trying to figure out why it wouldent come off,now that i know it seems like a good idea:bigthink: |
Quote:
The top setscrew is a lock for the setscrew that holds to the shaft. Very normal. I have a 124 and a 107 with pulleys that bad. Im dreading pulling those off- but the good thing is not worrying about saving the pulleys!! :biggrin2: |
2 sets of set screws is the norm. I just got a sweet email from a local guy up here in VT! He's got a 147 hood for $20, a pulley/pto basket for $20 and a seat off a 104(the white rubber with blue edging). Don't know the $ on the seat yet, also has a NF creeper for $175, pretty banging deals!!
Question: Would the 104's seat be correct on the 124?? I thought I saw a 124 with that seat on it?? |
The old engine in my 86 (now 128) cracked the front pulley in half and cracked two fly wheel. Some one did not re build it right.
|
All tractors in the 1x4/5 series would have the fiberglass seat except the 72.

Fiddled with the 2072
Wasn't feeling too well this morning so I called in sick but made a miraculous recovery  Thank you. Drove up to the Cub Cadet dealer and went thru the new owner checklist for the 2072 I picked up last week. The young man working the counter is a Cub fanatic and knows his stuff. Got a new oil filter, new trans filter, new plugs, oil and Hytran. Came home and pulled the old rear cover off and it was pretty nasty but it cleaned up well. The trans filter was a bear to get off; there wasn't much left of it by the time it started to budge. I had let the oil drain while I ran up to the dealer and on return I swished a little Sea Foam down the oil fill to flush out any other nasty crud.
It runs right spiffy, no more whining hydro pump and she starts with a bump of the key. Also bought a new seat since the old one had a little tear but did not get it on since I had to come in and put dinner in the oven. I might just powerwash that Haban that came with it instead of sandblast, it looks more dirty than rusty. Can't wait for daylight savings time so I have some light after work. Lots more to do. Weaverama |
Good job on the 2072! I got the mower on the 123. It works great i'll have to try it first before i give it back to lady that owns it. I wish it was mine it is a great running tractor and that is my favorite series.

You're welcome Weaverama, We've got another "winter storm warning" for tonight thru tomorrow for 4"-7":beer2:
Nice work Steve:beerchug: I replaced only one heim on my 71, but with that and putting a bearing in the top of the steering column, it steers like butter! Got into the rear of the 124 today, the brake lever was froze up and I got that all free. I would like to replace the o-ring on the brake lining retainer, but not sure how to get it out:bigthink: Can I just push it thru the reduction housing? Gonna replace every seal/gasket and probably bearings too! Also the reduction drive shaft is pretty worn where the spirol pin goes through. The coupling had a good bit of play in it, is replacing the shaft the only way to fix this issue?? Same problem I had on the O'!! |

Cleaned a dirty hydro today so I can split the 125 to change a bent drive shaft.Looks like a few shims in the trunion too.
Jude, Somewhere out there is a manual that helps you fix this stuff.Yeah it prolly can be fixed but you have to remove it first.Only 7"? you gotta have about 5' on the ground now!! |

Looks like everybody has been cleaning today.
Steve. looks great. Those are on my list for the 782. Look good Jude, All snow for you, it rained all day hear. Their calling for snow tomorrow. :beer2: Looks alot cleaner Lew.:biggrin2: I wanted to get the 18 mag tonight and tear into it but with all the rain I wa able to get it from my buddy's shed, his yard was like a lake. Oh well maybe tomorrow. I did gt some stuff done on it tonight though, I got the fenders off and started cleaning it up a little. It looks pretty good under the tins Shouldn't need to much to get it going aftet I get power to it. I drained the rear end the rest of the way, the kid had drained it for Joe to check the axle splines. It looks as good as new in there, no suprise. Tried cleaning up the tins a little their not as bad as thought. I'm headed down to see Rich tomorrow for some parts wanted to go today but work decided I needed to wait till tomorrow, lol. |
Nice work, everyone! :beerchug:

KICK-arse video.
Some of my neighbors just rolled their eyes when they 1st. saw my snowblower on my 109. I had the last laugh.:biggrin2: They couldn't believe what this old machine could do. It was fun. Nik, |

Lew, I do have the owners and service manuals for the 124. In the service manual it doesn't tell you how to remove the brake lining retainer, this is why I asked:bigthink: I'll start a thread on it if I don't get any good answers in this one. Funny thing about the snow, oh ya, it's doing it right now:bash2: I love the snow, but I'm getting a little tired of it all. Thanks Eric! Looking good on your end too:beerchug: Thanks to you also Allen... Nik, Thanks buddy! I do get some looks from people driving by, some do a double take:biggrin2: |
The brake lining retainer is just held in by the O ring, you should be able to knock it out with a wooden dowel and a hammer....

Today I changed out the bad drive shaft on the 125.I blocked the front wheels on both side to keep the whole thing from moving.Disconnected the battery also. The tractor was held level in place with the spackle buckets, which were the right height for under the foot rest. These help keep the tractor from tipping over once the rear is removed. Then I removed the hydro linkage off the cam plate, then removed the brake linkage off the brake arm.Apparently the drive shaft was not bent. The input shaft on the pump side was wallowed out,rag joint was torn and the little teat that is on the end of the drive shaft was bad.Whilest I was in there I took a look at the trunion, not bad,but I had to take the the slop out of the cam and plate assembly.I had these balance gear shims, worked well for the cam assembly.I picked up a few 18 ga. machine bushings for the damper plate, only needed one.Put it all back together, the rubber band came in handy to hold the brake linkage up so it makes it over the rock shaft.BTDT.Slid it back in and reconnected everything. The paint stick worked well holding up the drive shaft and guiding it through the fan shroud and the air baffle plate.I still have to test it out and see if it creeps.I did remember to mark the location of the cam plate assembly before I removed It.Just a note.If you are trying to free up the hydro release valves, you do not need to completely pull the rear out.As long as you remove the bolts on the frame that hold the rear on,you can slide the tranny back as far as you need to access them. This keeps the trans brackets on the frame and keeps it from falling out.

Great work Lew! Nice pics and tips too:beerchug:
I got the brake retainer out tonight, was wondering how much brake pad there should be?? I have like a mm of pad sticking out. |

Looking great Lew, :biggrin2:.
Jude, look what reared it's ugly head again tonight, 1" to 3" tonight, and 4" to 6" tomorrow :bash2:. I did get a really nice set of fender's from Rich today at Patton acres. I also got the elusive CCC grill emblem, and a few other little things while I was there. I just love that place!!!:biggrin2: Here's a couple shots from tonight, Got the fenders on and did some more cleaning on it. Cleaned the grill and it looks really nice. Cut a new rear end gasket and put the over back on. I still need to find a seat and a hood ornament for it and a few other things but they'll wait. I clean up all the oil and grease from under the hood, she's all ready for the 18 mag. Hopfully I can get the motor tomorrow and get to work on it this weekend. I'm not going to do much more till I get it repowered. After that I'm going to break it down and repaint the whole tractor. |
