I am starting to like RED Cubs even more than I use to, now owning the 107.....:biggrin2: |
Connor sweet 107!
I got some tilling time yesterday and today. I did the hood yesterday and went to my buddy's house today. Once I let him try it out he wouldn't get off it! :bash2: It's all good tho he wants find some more gardens to till and will find the jobs and let me keep the $$ so he can get some seat time.:biggrin2: I'm trying to get him to buy one but he wants my tiller to and that's not happening! He might go to the SC plow day with me this weekend so a great chance to get him hooked! No picsd of yesterday or today. I wish I would have got a before and after pics of my friends garden. It was in bad shape. I told him I'll plow it for him in the fall and he said no he'll plow in the fall.:biggrin2: |
Sounds like he's going to have to get a cub for himself, Duke.
|
Duke,
A little biz-tip for you . . . If you want to keep your customers long term, stop looking so happy when tilling and plowing with your Cub. At this rate they're all just gonna go buy their own to get in on the fun! |

getting spring-ready
This weekend, I removed the thrower from the 122, put the ags on it, oil change, and quick check.
Pulled the chains off the turfs, and gave the 124 a quick check. Ordered a pair of new 23x10.5-12 Duro ags for $105! And found a pair of 12x7 rims for $35!!! The rims were on the porch tonight, and are new! The only thing is they gave the front a spray bombing of "graphite black". Tomorrow, they get a good coat of white in prep for the new AG's, and I'm adding 3.5" to the 3pt adapter for the plow and harrow. I still haven't decided whether to use the 1.5:1 gear box for the tiller yet. Either one of the tiller or thrower boxes is getting a thorough cleaning, and going over before attaching it. I put up a thread with my question of whether someone has tried the slower gearbox for the rear, with no interest, so I'll just have to wing it. And last, now that it's warm, the homemade hydro lift is going on the 124. I need to remove the tower to install the 2spool valve I'm using and it was just too cold in the garage this winter. |

Nice tractors and work everyone:beerchug: I hung out in the shop for a couple hours tonight. Pulled the steering out of the 124 and found why it had so much play in it. The cam follower needed adjusted and the lever/bolt assembly was loose too. Snug those up and greased it, now she's smooth as butter with no play, even with original plastic bushing in the top of column. Pulled the brake pads out of retainer and rearend. Worked on the implement lift arm, unfroze lock assembly and polished rust off handle. Sat and contimplated the hydro unit on the O' for a good half hour:beer2:

Awesome pics, guys! :beerchug:

Spent the day fighting a start problem
Finished last years mowing season with a hard to start and periodically stalling 1872. I took it to a local repair shop simply because I have better things to do than this. They told me the engine was "toast" and promptly tried to sell me a different brand zero turn for $8000 and up. I asked them what they meant by "toast" and they said it didn't have any compression. Now I have 37 years under my belt as a jet engine mechanic, jet engine tester, technical writer and engineering specialist. I told him the engine ran fine when it did start and had plenty of power so I know it has compression. He said he had taken the heads off and the valves were burnt. He said he took photos of the valves (which he never showed me) before putting the heads back on and he was surprised that it started and moved out of the shop on it's own power. I brought the tractor back home and started my own investigation. First off I checked the compression. With the engine cold I have 75# and 85#. The manual for the M18S says 90# but that was 24 years ago, it should be enough to start. It was easy to see that none of the cooling panels have been removed and it was also obvious the heads have never been off. So much for that thief at the shop. I've cleaned the engine, had a lot of oil on it. Found the "Umbrella valve" in the breather was broken off. Put a new breather with the metal valve on it and sealed the breather back up. Also had to repair the breather tube since it had a leak in it. The starting and stalling problem is obviously electrical in nature. I found the connector on the ignition switch badly corroded. I cleaned that all up and picked up another switch but the old one tests out good. Cranked it over and it started right up. Let it run for a couple minutes and shut it down. Tried to start it again and no spark to the test plug. I have an electrical diagram for the engine but not for the tractor itself. Can anyone help me out with that? I have something going to ground somewhere but it's eluded me so far. I found the white wire which comes out of the ignition coil/pickup and disconnected it at the connector on the left rear of the engine. Actually took the wire out of the connector. The white wire is for grounding the ignition when you shut it off. I got that much out of the engine drawings. With that wire out of the system the engine started right up. When I turned the key to shut the engine down it just kept running. So I grounded the white wire to the block and it shut down. So it's obvious to me that my problem is somewhere past that connector. But I need an electrical drawing for the 1872 to know where all to look. This thing has so many "safety" switches on it that I'm not sure which one might be causing the problem or where they are all located. Sorry for writing a book. I'm new to the list. This sort of problem has probably been beaten to death but I can't find it with a search. Can anyone send me the electrical diagram for the 1872 ???
Thanks Buck |
Today I took a 12 hp out of a 127 and put it in a 128 that was tired.
Not a direct swap though.I had to change the PTO because the 128 has the brake style on it ,change the flywheel shroud because the coil is mounted higher up on the 128 to clear the frame.I also put in a new brass bushing on the 3 pin driver and put in a new teaser spring. |

I'm glad you got it figured out. I would post your wiring diagram in it's own post and I'm sure Roland will have one for you in no time. Roland is great at the wiring diagrams and getting them to the people that need them. Make sure you have a email address in your profile and he'll send it to you. Thanks Roland! |
Awesome job on your adapter, Ben! :beerchug:

Great stuff guys!
Bruce, nothing like getting "muck stuck" to make things interesting! Glad the wife could come get you unstuck . . . DX3 - Nice looking paint . . . I'm getting ready to paint my 42" deck - I'm thinking I'll just ship it to you :biggrin2: Buck - Duke's right, get your wiring problem moved over into the problem solving forum where it'll get noticed and Roland or one of the other guys will get you fixed up toot-sweet. Welcome to OCC! |
Took the 451 blower off the 2072 last night only to fin that when i removed the drive belt the front PTO has the bearing going out of it. Now I'm not sure what to do as I use the front PTO for two things. Running the 451 and a 60" haban deck. So I'm at the cross roads do I put in the newer 6" PTO so that I spin my blower at the proper speed, which is cheaper than the OEM one. Or do I spend the money to keep it OEM and still spin the blower slower, which works but not as good. I guess I just dont know if I put the larger one on would I need to change the pulleys on the Haban deck? Or would spinning it faster do a better job with out harming my deck?

Spent the morning out working on the yard in this beautiful spring weather.
I had a old red wishing well sitting in my front yard that was falling apart and dry rotted. I used the blade on the 1811 to push over the well, then brake it into pieces. Once that was done I used fast straps and attatched them to the pieces and the tractor and drug them back to my burn pile. One of the reasons it was all rotted was at some point someone had filled it with dirt. I used the blade to smooth out the dirt and the real wheels to compact it down. Turned out quite nicely. I love getting to play with my tractor. http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/v...ractor/021.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/v...ractor/022.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/v...ractor/024.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/v...ractor/026.jpg |

Was getting ready to load the trailer for the plow day on Saturday and the neighbor came over and asked if I would plow his garden. It turned out pretty good considering I've done nothing more than set it up per the manual.

It hit 56 degrees here today:buttrock:. Got the cubs out of the shop and cleaned house. The 147 wasn't running to well, backfiring through the carb, so I did the static timing (Matt G.'s) and it was way off. Took me a while to get it dialed in right, but finally did. Went to start it up and nothing:bigthink: I finally figured out it had no gas in it:bash2:. Filled it up and got ready to start it and low n behold gas was pouring out of the carb:bigeyes:. Just rebuilt carb and has been fine since rebuild(couple week's ago). After taking it apart for the 3rd time I figured out it was the brass float, took it off and shook it, was filled with gas:beer2:. Stole the float off a k161 and now she's good to go!! Also threw the 6.5's on the 71 and I like the look. Video to come shortly of 147 & rear blade:biggrin2:

looking good jude. i'm gunna have to put my rear blade on also and fix my driveway pretty soon. i just realized you might need a bigger shop pretty soon lol :biggrin2:
