147 time

I've been piddling with the 147 ...last week I fixed the tank leak and cleaned it out good. I noticed that it surged at idle quite a bit, then I noticed quite a bit of slop in the throttle shaft.

I pulled the carb , disassembled and rebuilt it with some new parts from a kit I had , and put a bushing on the throttle shaft. I REALLY took my time getting the choke plate screws out this time so I didn't snap one like I did last time with the "O". It took about 5 min each of back and forth to get them out without damage. I noticed that the throttle linkage was loose on the throttle shaft too. I could have zapped it with the MIG (and may still if this doesn't work) but I put a blob of epoxy on it to keep it from shifting. The peening done 40 yrs ago had loosened up quite a bit. The carb shaft is steel in this one, not brass as in the old Carter on the O.

Hopefully that'll smooth out the idle some .. it was good therapy either way. I'll find out later this week!

rebuilt the clutch on our newest "O".

The old shaft was WORN, right where the front bearing was. I made a new shaft out of 5/8" steel and used a connector like the one that goes onto the shaft that goes into the reduction housing. I just put the new on in front of the flex ring and drilled the new shaft for the pin. It is now MUCH quieter with the new bearing! :beerchug:

While I was there, i replaced the spring with a yellow one that I had laying around. It looks great now! Much nicer than that rusty/worn shaft that was on there.

I've been swamped at work and home and got some seat time Sat. with tilling 2 gardens and 4 flower beds. We were able to get our garden planted before the rains came in. No pics but I got the jobs done.
