My last hunt I came home without meat. I saw a great 10 pointer & made it a quest to get him & no other deer. That will never happen again.

I held out & when it came down to my last day to hunt. I lucked out & didn't get to tag up. That final morning the wind was blowing 25/30 miles per hr.. Seemed as if all wildlife just layed down. My wife was pissed, she has NEVER EVER said anything about my hunting in all the years we've been married but she told me to never do this again. We look forward to venison & this year we will just think about it.

Another gripe, since I'm rolling along;:bash2:

Hunters outlook is just not taking a buck. For the last 4/5 years all the bucks they mention is in a class range. It used to be a, 8 pointer, a 10 pointer, now it's, oh I saw a 120', oh I missed a 140, hey look at my deer I rough scored it to be a 135.5. :bash2::bash2:

Just ranting along to get this off my chest.

Nik,

on our club, the rule is you don't shoot it unless its out past the ears.... typically any thing less then 8 points gets to live till next year.

if you kill all the little ones, theres nothing pretty to hang on the wall !

Does are another story... if my freezer is empty, does will die !

Here's pictures of a young 9 point I shot for 2011. He was shot already across the creek and must have swam over to our side. Had to put him down. All I know is...meat in the freezer. It was the drag from heck as we were all the way down near Cattaragus Creek in Zoar Valley and it's quite a hill that we were on. Thankfully a local we know got his 4Wheeler to get it out the other 1/2. My cousins and I back at camp having a well earned beer after doing the buddy system to get it up half way before the quad got there. Also shots of the does that my cousins got. The 4th pic shows us doing a shot of Slivo (Serbian plum brandy) after we got back to camp with my buck. Gotta love venison...

Brings back some thought's?

When I 1st., started deer hunting in the deep woods of N. Wisconsin we hunted with BIG drive's. Sometimes up tp 10/12 people. Now these hunters were from the area & this was their method, They've been driving deer for generations. This is all back in the 60's, (gulp).

With that, whenever we shot a camp deer it was always refered to as;

SPEED MEAT!:beer2:

Nik,

I'll never forget the time my cousins and I did a drive some years back in the area where we hunt. There were probably about 10 or so hunters involved. A few guys and I were the closest to the road. A guy we call "Axe Murderer Bob" had his older father with them out in front of us. At one point the shots started and I heard one shot whizzing between me and another guy. Man, I never dove that fast on the ground!!!! Yea, it was the elder "Axe Murderer." :bigeyes::bigeyes::bigeyes::bigeyes:Scared the stuff right outta me. It went right over the road and into the hill across there. I've never done drives again with guys I don't know, but we have done planned small drives with just us. :Explode: Drives do work good as long as you know who is where and where your line of fire is...BE SAFE and KNOW WHERE YOU CAN SHOOT!
