Nice car I live in Ohio and have raced most of the tracks in Ohio.mainly drag racing but also some track racing too dirt and asphalt its a lot of fun. I'm at a lot of the car shows. And swap meets

The plot has thickened. My friend at the Chevy dealer called me last night to tell me they actually called Z06 owners and one is ready for the challenge. He did not want to race for money. I texted the gentleman and he agreed to best out of three and loser buys dinner. On paper the two cars should be very close. I think the edge will come down to driver. I am very comfortable in the 99. This car is a different animal. I have only had a few weeks. I am not used to the automatic trans so I think the driver's edge will go to the Z. Hopefully we will do this in the near future.

Your definitely going to need some more tire to have any chance of putting that power to the ground.
|
Awesome! What kind of power did the car make? Did you have it dyno tuned or who did the tune for you? You are carrying a good bit more weight than the Z06. Roughly 200# so you are going to have to overcome that with HP. I would say if your car makes 650 at the tire you will have a real good chance at showing him some tail lights! Keep us posted! Can't wait to hear or see the results!

Traction is definitely an issue. My car is an automatic so it seems the best launch is with traction control on and mash it. I'm still playing with that.
Heinriech my car has 615 at the wheels. Z06 numbers I have seen are 540 to 585 at the wheels. Weight is an issue I weigh 330lbs on top of the 200lb differance. So that's easy another 100lbs I am behind. We will see what happens. The 16 is really just for me and my wife to put a CD in turn on the cooled seats and go to Dairy Queen. The 99 is really the muscle of the two. |
I finally got the call that the 99 was ready for pick up but there was a problem. The speed shop had sent the car to the local ford dealer for a front end alignment, the car is very low and it was damaged when they tried to put it on the rack. I went up the next morning to see he damage. When I got there the owner had tears in his eyes. Jokingly I said it can't be that bad. He then preceded to tell me that his main mechanic who did all the work on the car was killed in a motorcycle accident the night before. I felt like I was just kicked in the gut. I was there the morning before talking to him about the car. He was 28 and seemed to be a nice young man. The owner did not know any details, but said he was an experianced rider and wore a helmet. I have had many performance cars but I am scared to death of motorcycles.

Well it seems the Z06 owner has changed his mind I have not herd a word after multiple attempts to contact him. I did run my buddy with his new C7 vette. and he destroyed me. This was a complete shock and very upsetting since I have over 200 more horse power. I left the traction control on and stomped it and I got stomped. I called Ford, Roush, dealers ect... no body new the best way to run an automatic. 10 calls 10 opinions. While I was at the Ford show at Carlisle I decided to stop at the Ford racing trailer at 9pm to see if anybody knew anything. I told them the car had problems and nobody could help. They said the car should be a beast so I showed them the video of the vette leaving me at the line. After I insisted on politely insulting who were mostly sales guys sitting there drinking beer one guy came out of the trailer and said let me see that video. I showed him and he agreed there was a problem. Long story short or shorter he jumped in with his lap top and we went out to some road in the middle of PA and started doing 1/4 mile runs as he data logged it all. There was a problem several in fact seems they don't do a lot with auto cars. The next day he tracked me down and was all hyped according to him he was up the whole night on the phone with all the other Ford engineers correcting the problems and wanted to know if I would like the corrected tune put in my car. Hell yeah I want it so now I am the only one in the country with the correct tune. He also said he might have just added a little something for my trouble. What a difference. I just ordered new tires because traction is a big problem. The good news is that my son and I are enjoying the hobby together we talk, go for rides and car shows. We have become closer and have been having a lot of fun with the cars. I don't get every time I let my daughter drive it she gets all kinds of attention. Tons of guys flirting. The other day not only one but two cops zoomed up next to her just to smile and give her the thumbs up. I'm pretty sure that has never happened to me.
