NC Yankee
My name is Shane, I'm 35, and I'm from Raleigh NC. I actually don't own any tractor, yet. My grandfather had an old Cub Cadet 1450 and an old Simplicity we used to do work with. The 1450 was mostly used for plowing snow in the winter time up in the North East. Gosh that thing took a licking and kept on ticking. The simplicity was our mower/hauler for the property up in Ticonderoga NY.
I tried to get my Grandfather's old 1450 and found out it had been taken to the junk yard. Now that I'm a home owner I would love to get my hands on one of these oldie but goodies. I'm looking for a 1450, 782, and a 782D of course. I would like to find one that I don't have to restore. I came across a 1450 in Williamsburgh, va. I should have it in hand next week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNGgB0RW5vY Anyway, I'm keeping my eyes peeled. I just want something to mow the lawn with and maybe plow some dirt around and the occasional snow here in NC. No pulling. I wouldn't abuse something so special. My other hobbies include road racing my Nissan 240sx. |

I've got a good friend in Raleigh. Let me know if you need a local hook up. I'm a yankee in NC as well.:biggrin2: Looking forward to your pics of your 1450 when you get it. :WWP: |
Thanks! One of the first things I need is the blade/plow attachment. Probably should get the weights and chains too.

:Welcome2: Shane! Glad to have you!

Welcome aboard Shane. I had a 1250 and really enjoyed it. I know the 1450 would be awesome with the hydro lift. Would make easy work of the snow blade and moldboard plow.

welcome were glad to have another nc yankee i would hate for duke to be the only one, lol.

Welcome aboard Shane! The 1450 in your video is in great shape from what one can tell from a 26 second youtube clip, I hope it works out for you.

The guy who now owns it said it's always been in his family. His grandfather bought it new. As far as I knows he's done some repainting on it and the ISO mounts are still in good shape. Keeping my fingers crossed it works out. I found one in Nebraska that looked promising but I couldn't get good pics/videos out from the fella who was selling it so I had to pass on it. But from what it seemed that it was in better shape than this one is. Oh well!
I tried to get my grandfathers old 1450 but I was told that it was carted off to the junk yard years ago - something about the motor mounts being shot (which sounds likely) or the bolts being completely stripped out of the block. Either way I'm sure that tractor was in rough shape. I recall at one point the tranny had to be rebuilt because my uncles beat the tractor so badly. Not surprising considering the way it was used. It had a hard life and lasted a long time - namely the reason I want one. |
I finally got her this afternoon. Needs a few items.
Any maintenance items you all recommend? (replace tranny fluid/filter, etc) https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._3663659_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._8004047_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...2_941171_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._4647860_n.jpg |
Shane no fair washing it before posting pics! Looks good! I would start a new thread in the IH GT section of the site for more feedback.
